Blackpool Pleasure Beach: General Discussion

Brilliant, thanks for your help mate. Always wary about the language barrier with these things and them thinking you're just a clueless tourist who wants to try and get in for nothing!

Only done Efteling, but I wouldn't worry about language in the Netherlands. Most people dealing with tourists speak perfect English, and most of the general public seem to know enough to communicate to some degree.
Customer Services were confused by the new designs on the cards, but soon sorted us out with tickets.

Yup, there are Dutch toddlers who speak better English than most Blackpool visitors. The best part is, unlike most other European nationalities, most Dutch people seem pleased to hear the words "do you speak English?" Usually replying with a proud, "of course!" The best reaction I've ever seen was a waitress in Amsterdam, who seemed offended at the very idea of not being perfectly fluent in another language, as if that was akin to imlpying she was some kind of moron!

Gotta love the Dutch.

Nice to hear they CBA with Nash after deciding to go to two LNRs this year (9th May after Mingoland on the 8th and the meet).

Quick question how many cars does the big one usually run on? It's on 6 cars today I'm sure it used to run more? Only one train too :-(

According to RCDB there are 5 cars on each train as opposed to the 6 which you stated.

Surely the train goes all the way back to the station. A further car wouldn’t fit.

We popped on park today, ate pizza and rode The Big One, first time in a couple of seasons. Icon was running three trains, which was unexpected. Everything seemed to be running.

I don't have an issue with the £18 parking, I'd never pay it, but I don't have an issue with them charging it as many folks seemingly pay it. That said, it amazes me that when we rocked up just after 3 that it's still £18... paying a fella to collect money from no one. Then, in ticket sales, there are 4 staff selling tickets to no one.

In Big Pizza Kitchen, there's more staff than punters - the whole set up is a farce. This was the system today, just when I thought it couldn't get worse:
  • Greeted at the door, shown to the table
  • Girl comes over, asks what we wanted - "Two buffets, two soft drinks"
  • She writes down our highly complex order, on a pad and disappears off
  • Comes back with the price, asks if we're paying card or cash. I say card.
  • Disappears to get the card machine. I show my platinum pass - mass confusion ensues. She disappears.
  • She comes back, without the card machine. Spins 180 as she approaches the table.
  • She reappears with the card machine, I pay with my card, asks if I wanted the receipt, I said "no thanks".
  • She disappears off, again
  • She returns with plates and cutlery
  • She returns to the table a few minutes later with the receipt I didn't want
TAKE MY MONEY AT THE DOOR AND POINT ME IN THE DIRECTION OF THE TROUGH!

Lots of staff stopping rides for a few minutes while wiping down handles and scanners.
Didnt seem as busy as it should have been for the first sunny Sunday of the season.
Noticed a lot of casual gaps in the queues, of about two metres.
New scanner on Icon playing up so much the station gates were half empty!
Valhalla has apparently been gutted in parts...lift hills removed and the march has started on the big rot fix.

Double post, whip me gently in the circumstances.
Emailed the Beach re this weekend.
Customer services are still insisting they are open this weekend and are still taking bookings.
When prompted, they added that any dated bands can now be rebooked without additional charge.
I will be giving this weekend a miss on government advice, sadly.

I get how difficult this is though for businesses. I work for a huge retail store, albeit in head office, and our stores will remain open until the government tell us otherwise.

I can only assume that the finances at BPB right now are far worse than anybody has imagined and they literally can't afford to close.

Can't think of any other explanation. Terrible PR.

Really irresponsible given what the nurses and doctors are doing. They aren't slogging their guts out so people can go on rollercoasters and spread the virus. If people behaved as they should during this pandemic then the risks would be much much lower. However of course we are a country full of numbskulls who won't be told. I'm not overly worried by the virus as I'm not being stupid. I'm taking precautions and if and when I get it I will isolate. I am going to get it too as my wife is one of those nurses I spoke about.

I guarantee there will be vloggers there this weekend if they are open. Should be named and shamed if they are.
