Is it me or is there and elephant in the room? Disney have closed all theme parks world wide, yet nothing from towers? I mean they can't even promise hot tap water.

Suspect the government is pushing hard on business not to react beyond their advice to prevent panic.

I mean the place you will get it is a supermarket so the practical benefit of closing big public venues is questionable.

Knowing Merlin and lack of notice, if they are to not open they most likely won’t announce until the night before.

It seems not only sensible but responsible to delay it for a couple of weeks.

Be interesting what happens at the park this weekend.

Already said this in the Coronavirus thread, but I think the hot water thing is over-rated.
I recently was in Belgium and every public toilet I used had cold water at the hand wash sink, every single one. Even in our hotel where there was hot water in the en suite bathroom of our room, the toilet next to the lobby only had cold water. It was not nice washing hands in cold water, but after a couple of days I had to get used to it!

Towers are terrible for announcing if the park won’t be opening. During the ‘Beast from the East’ in 2018, they didn’t announce the park won’t be fully open until mid-afternoon the day before opening, despite the clear warnings in place. I highly suspect they’ll act the same way next week, which is particularly frustrating for me as I need to travel via public transport.

It seems the responsible thing to do would be to delay the start of the season, in line with other parks worldwide. But I’ve no faith that they’ll announce it any earlier than Friday evening. I hope I’m wrong there.

Apart from who wants to put their hands under freezing water for 20 seconds!

This situation is different to bad weather etc and I suspect they will not announce any closure until the government introduce measures restricting events. We appear to be a couple of weeks behind other countries so this could hit just in time for opening weekend.

Unless you’re stopping people leaving their house, restricting events or theme parks won’t help that much. People are all flocking to shops and supermarkets to buy literally everything so you’re still going to have people coming in to contact with others.

It will only be on official advice that the park doesn’t open, it makes no sense to do so unless it’s in conjunction with others.

I think they know that if they close the attractions then people won't want to stay in the hotels and then the lost revenue starts really racking up. This would then mean no Secret Weapon for around another 16 years approximately.

I would suspect they have some level of loss of earnings insurance but it’s a risk.

Government publishing emergency legislation to take effect next weekend to "ban mass gatherings" - no other details are known yet though.

Well that’s that then

Six flags and Disney have both confirmed they will be extending all annual passes to cover closures. Disney and Efteling have said all staff will be paid during closures.

If/when the closure hit here it will be interesting to see Towers/Merlin's response.
