Sensible I suppose implementing it gradually. Can you imagine the panic if we went from nothing to full lockdown mode?

And on that does Merlin take responsibility and close or are they going to stay open and let the public be the “irresponsible” ones for visiting...

One would hope they'd do the former, but I suspect it may well be the latter.

Theme parks will close for 4-6 weeks for sure. Maybe longer. Aren't most of the staff zero hrs at these places too? They won't have to pay many will they?

My missus has her head so far in the sand she's snogging Graboids. She plans to go and run her Guide unit tonight as if nothing is happening. The more I try and tell her how irrisponsible this is, the more she refuses to admit anything is wrong.

There is no reasoning with her. :banghead:

People will be ignoring this advice and will still be ramming your local supermarkets and other venues spluttering over each other as per usual.

"Prime Minister Boris Johnson has said everyone in the UK should now avoid "non-essential" travel and contact with others and to fight coronavirus."

Close the schools now. My mum is a librarian. How does she avoid social contact?

If folks are following the advice, far fewer will be travelling. Though you're in a better position as I imagine you don't come into contact with as many folks each day.

Personally I'm questioning whether to go to work on Saturday. I would feel terrible to let them down on mothers day weekend, but...

Although on average I do probably meet fewer people on a daily basis, many are from all over the country and many from London. And we’re peanilised if we’re sat around “clear” and not on a job even if the works not there

Shocking advice Given by the government. "Advising" against visiting pubs and bars puts the onus on the business whether to open or not. That means this likely will not trigger their business insurance policies whereas an order to close would. No measures explained to help these businesses either just that the government will "give businesses space". Space doesn't pay the bills or put food on the table of the owners and the employees.

There are staff at work talking about stopping students coming in and do teaching via online system.
When i say they will have to come in. The reply, we can monitor at home. To save unnecessary travel ( not interact, monitor)

In other news from 03/01/2020 to 21/02/2020 there were 15,147 deaths in England and Wales due to normal flu and associated respiratory complications.

I do wonder why there has never been a complete meltdown on this scale each year with the damage that seasonal flu does.

Serious question for the people who are panicking? Why are you worried about this strain of flu and not the seasonal one which kills thousands each year?

I know that this post will be overlooked as it doesnt fit the panic that the country is in, but these figures are available on the national statistics website for deaths and are available weekly. If I remember, I will post the new figures to see how much of an impact Covid 19 is actually having on numbers of deaths.

Stop comparing this to the seasonal flu, this spreads much more quickly and has a fatality rate that is ten times higher than the flu. Panicking doesn't help, but neither does acting like this is no big deal.

Another day or two and all non-essential gatherings will be stopped under law...
They are just breaking it to us gently.
Two weeks at home with the wife...death rates will shoot up!
two weeks...
"Asked how long the new advice on avoiding social contact will last for, UK chief medical adviser Prof Chris Whitty says it will be a "minimum of weeks to months"."

I know it's a different country, but the CDC in America is apparently estimating at this point in time that the quarantine over there will last approximately 8 weeks.

I've had to tell my oldest friend to shut up and quit texting me. He's been messaging me all day telling me to bug out of London now and join him in his well stocked basement up north.
This is really not helping my state of mind!

Had to turn my phone off in the end because he just. Wouldn't. Stop!

Sent what might be my final invoice today. No idea if it will ever get paid.
