What are you guys' thoughts?
Now I’ve seen how the gov scheme to help SME is a bit of a shambles.
Talking of 1 in 5 going bust within the next 4 weeks.
If the intent of Gov is to lockdown for 12 weeks there will be nothing left to reopen when it’s over
All those out of work. No money. Mortgages being default on. Rents being default on
:(

Just think, when the lock down is relaxed to some degree and social distancing is no longer as strongly advised, there's going to be so much sport EVERYWHERE and all at the same time that you're not going to be able to move for sport, right in your face everytime you turn around. SPORT SPORT SPORT!! All the sport squeezed right into small spaces of time.

Just like this:

My current hope is that they will try to cram in several matches back to back in each venue, with no crowd. With luck, lots of work and overtime for me!

How the world economy bounces back from this crisis largely depends on just how long it goes on for. If we get over the worst of it and back to some sort of 'normal' in around 3 months then the damage can be limited somewhat and a lot of that has probably been planned for and priced into the financial markets losses (so far). However, if it goes on a lot longer beyond that you're looking at x-amount of otherwise stable firms going bust and the s**t is just going to hit the fan in general and some sort of rancid domino effect is going to come into being. The modern financial world is not built for inactivity on this scale and for a prolonged period of time. However, in good news, the roads are nice and empty when I have to drive to work and back :mask:

I am "furloughed" so still receiving 80% of the (very small) amount of money I would have earned, plus it looks like I'll be able to end my accommodation contract early which will save some money. I had a few trip ideas already and seeing as any hope of a summer internship is down the pan, I may end up packing them in late summer. Of course we're still in lockdown come September then I'm back at uni and that's the year written off as far as holidays are concerned. Just taking things as they come, I'm lucky that my parents both have secure jobs so we should be fine.

Good news; an ex-WHO official has said that due to the UK's social distancing measures, coronavirus is now "cornered with nowhere to go" and will "burn itself out": https://apple.news/ATGE2MBHPTM-t9wDU0qC8GA

Some other points of interest from the article:
  • Peak is now predicted to be between 6th April and 30th April.
  • The liberation of social distancing measures will depend on the percentage of the population that has had the virus. If 40-50% of the population has had it (which is apparently possible), social distancing could be liberated by mid-May. If only 10% of the population has had it, social distancing may need to remain until September.

But we will never know how many have had it as the gov are woeful behind testing and can never see them testing enough people to find out who’s safe and who isn’t

They're aiming to increase testing, and the antibody tests being brought out soon (of which the government has bought 3.5million) should give us an indication of how many people have actually had it.

I guess we'll see whether new case numbers drop massively any time soon. Then, we'll know.

Try to look on the bright side.

I appreciate it is hard, but don't get too bogged down.

Just try to stay safe and hold on.

:)

When was the peak predicted? There has been a large jump in reported cases today so I’m assuming testing has started.
The peak was originally predicted for May/June time, but is now predicted between 6th and 30th April. So that's definitely moved forward in recent days.

Judging by the recent jump, I think we're very near to the peak.

With London Being ahead of the curve, I think London will peak next week and the rest of the UK about 30th April with lockdown ending on 8th May.

The know I don’t have your optimism but if we are at the peak or close to. Which has only happened through social distancing
Then when we come out of lock down then the spike in death will happen again and we will be back at square one.
:(

I very much doubt social distancing measures will be relaxed until it is certain that the virus won't come back. This is one thing we ought to get right - we can watch how China do it.

:( Can’t even cuddle my pussy anymore for comfort in case I catch something
You can 100% still cuddle your... cat (god I hope that’s what you meant...), please don’t stop because of one non-peer-reviewed paper that might not be accurate.

If spending time with your moggy comforts you, then definitely continue to do so, no solid evidence whatsoever that it’s a bad idea :)

At least your cat wants affection! My cats (George and Mildred) would much rather run round in circles going mad. But don't worry - as far as I'm aware you're following the social distancing rules so stay home, cuddle your cat and breathe. You're doing everything you can - look after your mental and physical health :)

Got a bank statement today that had far fewer pages than usual. I could look through the transactions and see the exact point I stopped travelling to or buying lunch at work... stopped going to the pub... now its just a couple of local shops...

All I know from my bank statement on my phone is that I'm spending way less than I normally would. Who knows - coronavirus might help me to become a bit more financially stable! :p
