Interestingly, Germany has now drawn up plans that it thinks will keep the R0 value to below 1, but still see the lockdown end on 19th April: https://apple.news/AXiFdiTaoQSORCdRBF74MwA

With cases in Italy growing at their slowest rate since 19th March and deaths in Spain slowing for the 4th day in a row as well as these two pieces of news, could we be seeing the light at the end of the tunnel to some extent?

The 'covidiot' had three friends and his dog with him in his Vauxhall Corsa when it careered off a country road yesterday afternoon.

He lost control when the giant creepy crawly flew in through the window during the mini-heatwave.

The four people had driven ten miles despite Government guidance for Brits to only leave the house for essential work, shopping or exercise

At some point lockdown all have to be relaxed. Else the impact not only on the economy but on people's lives and health will be too great. This period has been to slow its spread to allow health systems to stock up on vital equipment, such as ventilators. Our NHS has done amazingly well to fair to them.

However this virus will be around at least for the next 12 months if not longer. However I'm pretty hopefully a suitable treatment will be available soon to lower the mortality rate.

The government has insisted that the lockdown & social distancing are only a temporary placeholder. The long-term strategy will be far more focused on testing & technology than social distancing.
 
:( How long has it been. 2 weeks? I’ve lost track of all time.
Hope there’s an improvement in The stats next week and they will slowly lift restrictions.
 
Think we've got the current level of restrictions into May, to be honest. If the peak is in two weeks they'll want to see that coming down consistently first.
 
The increase in deaths has been coming down pretty solidly for the last couple of days, so we could be past the peak now if we're lucky. I think time will tell whether that ends up being the case. Lockdown is next due to be reviewed on 13th April, but I don't personally see it ending that early unless the government either massively changes its strategy or there's a stark decrease in cases & deaths. Presuming they add another 3 weeks onto the timeline (when lockdown was originally announced, they said it would be reviewed every 3 weeks), the earliest I can see the measures being lifted is 4th May.

I could actually see them being lifted on this date, because the government is said to be getting fed up of the economic impact, and some people advising the government have even suggested that we revert back to our former herd immunity strategy. Boris Johnson is reported to be wanting to get us out of lockdown "as soon as possible" and was quite hesitant to introduce it, so I think that as soon as there's evidence of substantially reducing case numbers, we'll be out and about again.
 
Hey remember when Boris was going on about visiting the early patients and shaking hands with them all? Wasn't that bad then.

Things probably not helped that government officials aren't seemingly following their own advice. Or indeed been very slow in response to this disease in the first place. Probably too busy trying that herd immunity idea which was quite clearly not the right solution.

Still might make people realise that this is a serious thing and not just the Flu or whatever people think.
 
I've lost track of time but it seems like we have been told for weeks now that the peak will be in 2 weeks time. Maybe this is the peak.
