Hot drink all-day refill

As those who were at the Scarefest meet this weekend will know, Alton were trialling a hot drink refill offer, similar to the Coke/Fanta/Sprite refill deal.

It was £5, and sold out pretty quickly both days. It comes in a nice flask thing that you get to keep.

What do you think, good idea? £5 seems pretty damn cheap, will they up the price? And will they copy the fizzy refill by offering an all-season annual pass hot drinks refill? :)

£5 is great, but I doubt people will pay much more - much like the cold drinks, £5 is an invisible ceiling.

I hope it continues and an Annual Flask is available in 2013!

If they do an all-year unlimited coffee flask, that'll genuinely be a bigger improvement for me than SW7.

Unremarkable for me personally, I'm sure if it proves popular it will come back in a more expensive form!

An annual pass drinks flask for unlimited tea or hot chocolate (not much for coffee) throughout the year sounds excellent and the flasks can actually hold liquid (unlike the fizzy drinks capsules which are completely diabolical).

They could just match the prices for the fizzy drinks capsules and that'd be fine. Considering just how expensive an individual hot drink costs so much, £5 would be a little too cheap for an all year cup in my opinion.

I'd also suggest a less bland design for the cups instead of just all green with an AT logo on it. Maybe stick some rides or have different cups for different rides (Oblivion cup, Nemesis cup, etc...).

But I'd like to know if we can blag unlimited marshmallows for hot chocolates if they make an all year one for pass holders?

:D

Sound like a winner for the first and last part of the season, when the british weather is not at it warmest. Are the one day ones any good for use after the day is up, as it would be cool to have a AT theme travel mug/ flask :) I would get one just for that.

I saw the photo that was posted last night - I have to say, I am quite impressed with it! I jokingly asked a member of staff in one of the refreshment booths, if they would refill my Annual Pass Capsule, with Hot Chocolate, so this is a welcome product for me!

I'll certainly be looking out for these on my Scarefest & Firework visit!

The hot drink refill mug is absolutely amazing and was definitely worth the price, only in three drinks can you successfully make it great value! Although it's a faff carrying them around and particular a problem when going on attractions, from placing it carefully next to yours or a familiar somebody's bag or into your own bag when full, the design is simple and ergonomic plus it doesn't leak!

I hope it returns for next year and the demand is certainly out there, apparently the entire stock sold out by noon today.

Does anybody know if we can get away with using the mugs at the other Merlin attractions?

They definitely seem like a good product to bring in... Though would probably only see the height of popularity during Sep-Nov and the early season in March/April. £5 seems very reasonable though and is a great alternative for those who prefer hot drinks to cold (particularly when hot drinks individually seem way over priced!)

Has anyone got a picture?

It is a very good idea as a lot of parents or older visitors who come with kids are always after coffee all day to keep them going, and I think if this were to be introduced next season then that would be their target market! £5 certainly does seem very good value too, especially with a decent capsule that you can keep. Too good to be true IMO, probably be slightly more expensive next year.

This sounds great! I think it would be awesome on cold days and useful to give mothers with over exited children a boost. I'm all for it.

You can definitely try to use it, but seeing as none of the other parks do refillable hot drinks they might look at you a bit weirdly ;)

Has anyone got as photo of the flask they could post in this topic? :) I haven't seen any pictures on Faffbook of it, is the flask of a good solid design?

Still, good to hear anyway. Much like the cold drinks capsule, it's great value if you plan on having a few drinks in the day. You only need to have 2/3 drinks and it's already paid for itself, so it's very good value!

Love this idea. I've never bought the unlimited fizzy drinks since they're not something I ever drink. Coffee however is something I could have a few cups of in a day, and like someone else said, 3 drinks and you've made up your £5.

Call me a pessimist but I'm sure somewhere down the line they'll use the flask as justification to raise the price, time will tell...or our wallets, whatever!

Admittedly the amount of liquid that goes into the mug, depending on the outlet, does fluctuate. Some places will fill it only halfway due to the size of the paper cups that are regularly used and some will happily fill up to an inch below the brim! Nonetheless, it was great how it didn't leak despite the amount of time we spent walking around.

You can't get away with using mugs elsewhere, as they are only to be used on one day!

Have to say I did try and tempt dad with this offer when we went to Corner Coffee first thing on Saturday as a cappuccino was £2.70 so it would have more than paid for itself in two visits. However, as most have said, I wouldn't think refills will remain £5 for long due to how cheap they are.....especially during extended opening hours as they must lose a lot of revenue from people who would normally buy individual cups. I think there's still a market during Spring and Summer months as there are a lot of people who much prefer hot drinks to cold so I don't think it will suffer due to seasonal change and besides, how much actual Summer do we in England get?!

They look and sound rather decent for the price. I hope they sell them next year.
