Alton Towers have replaced their Oblivion on-ride video with one that doesn't just point at the sky:

Slightly off topic as a whole, but relevant to the video...

Oblivion is one of the very few (2?) dive coasters that actually transports you around the top rather than has a slight slope to let gravity do its thing. I cant work out from that video how it actually does it, does anyone know?

There is a chain on the bend at the top that engages with the shuttle and carried it around. I can't find any photos that show it however you can see it when riding on the front row.

John Wardley explains it in this video as a reverse dog (opposite of the one that pulls you up the lift), with a clutch that releases.
I’ve never seen that before, thank you for sharing, it was brilliant! John Wardley’s ability to deliver a perfect piece-to-camera whilst riding Enterprise is an unimaginable feat.

I understand Oblivion will be slightly different but there's a video from the behind the scenes tour of Griffon which shows the configuration with 2x anti-rollback, 1 chain dog and 1 drop dog:

The drop is also described as being pulled slowly over the edge without actually stopping, which seems different to what John Wardley described.

I do recall one occasion a few years ago where I waa on a shuttle which didn't hold at all. Literally just approached the edge then went over it like a normal drop. Was quite a pleasant surprise!

So I read something which said theme parks like Alton towers could use time slots to prevent queues to maintain social distancing when the parks eventually reopen. I hope this isn't true as it'd limit the amount of rides you could get on massively

I agree, instead of the GP people getting on an average of 3 rides a day, you'll be lucky to get on one o_O

For us regular enthusiasts, the lack of re-rides will be a shock

Oh, that's also be single riders queue out of the window
