2020: Piraten in Batavia

^Seeing it in person (albeit last month before it was totally finished with the stained glass window) I thought it looked quite well amongst all those new facades there. Didn't feel at odds with the area. Plus in the new narrative it is an old abandoned VOC building that the local Pirates have taken over and turned into their bar so the weathering seems fitting.

The latest EP Weekly episode shared some insights of the decorations and props department - including some of their work for Batavia.

BNN are reporting that the targeted opening of Piraten in Batavia has now slid back to the end of July due to work being slowed by COVID.

According to the park, almost all attractions are to be opened on May 29, but not yet the "Pirates in Batavia" destroyed in a major fire in 2018. The opening date is now given as the end of July.

...
At the start of the corona pandemic, the park reportedly sent around 2,000 people on short-time work. "We are now gradually driving them back," says Gabriel. How fast will depend on the number of visitors. The economic damage caused by the epidemic has not yet been quantified - but it is likely to be enormous. The season is six weeks too short, among other things there is a lack of income from the mostly busy Easter days, on which up to 50,000 people visit."

I was only wondering yesterday whether or not they would have already recorded the soundtrack, and if not whether there would be any restrictions in doing so now. Good to see that recording is able to take place with some social distancing measures!

I love the way they've built the boats to be stripped apart and have pieces individually replaced. Just what you'd expect from a company of engineers. Going to be great for long term maintenance.

The whole thing appears to be coming together beautifully. The new boats are a masterpiece and the new lighting of the Dutch area is stunning.

Looks beautiful, especially at night.

So glad the park have decided to not only restore the attraction but also enhance it whilst keeping the original key features such as the Bamboo Bai.

At today's online press conference the Macks shared some more details on Batavia:
- They confirmed the ride will open at the end of July. No date was given but the Press Conference for the opening will be on 30. July.
- They claim the new Pirates has a mix of charm from the old ride with a modern and new touch.
- Roland Mack described the new story as Politically Correct - so this time the villagers will win against the pirates.
- He also praised the quality of the new animatronics - claiming they are only surpassed by Disney.

“Politically correct”? love it.

Also, very humble to state that the animatronics are only surpassed by Disney. Like that.

So, Michael Mack's announced yet another book tie-in (Mack SynerGy, am I right?) but this time for Batavia, titled:

"DIE FLIEGENDE SCHULE DER ABENTEUER - DER FEUERTIGER VON BATAVIA"

This features the fire tiger dagger, unsurprisingly, and ACE scouts as the protagonists.

Volume 2 of Rulantica isn't even out yet, and here we now have the 1st Batavia/ACE book already on it's way. haha
Interested to see how much more will come from this Coppenrath co-operation. How many more EP rides could they make books out of? Bench: The Novel? Blue Fire's Russian Adventures? :p
