What changes to operations should we expect post Covid-19?

Proper queue management would be good but Varney & co wouldn’t have that, no need to Fastrack... they’d have to try and recoup that loss and add it to everything else, no free parking

See my logic is if half your guests are in queue at any given time they are not spending. Remove the physical queue and you will make more money in other ways (side shows, food and merch). Should compensate for the routine fast track sales and you can still have a way or providing the platinum fast track that skips the new digital queues.

That's the exact same reasoning accesso have on their website! Guests queuing aren't spending.

I still say it’s not enough time to put it in place. If it was to be put in place me personally would do test runs on quiet days to see how it manages. But to rush it and just hope it works isn’t the right approach. They have just over a month till they can possibly reopen these things take time to test out and iron out the glitches and problems.

They have already tested the required systems,
It's Legoland rap for everyone.

LEGOLAND Florida reopens on Monday 1st June - interestingly, although they recommend all guests wear masks, it's not mandated.

If an American Merlin site recommends, but does not mandate, the wearing of masks, I'd be very surprised if Towers (or any other UK park) requires all guests to wear masks...

Individual sites will only require masks if the law requires them.
It's basically say "yeah you have to follow the law when you visit us, we aren't that magical"

From what I have seen, Germany seem to be a bit more stringent when it comes to face masks/covering compared to some other countries. At Europa-Park you must wear a mask/covering on all attractions, in all queue lines and in restaurants (apart from when you are actually eating). Whereas at Toverland for example, you are forbidden to wear a mask/covering on coasters!

Could this be the answer for ensuring that the harness, hand rails, VR and anything else than you could be touching are to be kept virus free?

https://www.itv.com/news/anglia/202...a-thameslink-to-kill-coronavirus-on-surfaces/

To be honest, going by what Cummings did and looking at the news on how crowds are not social distancing and the police were going around yesterday reminding people to social distance as they were breaking the rules, is there any point in putting any safeguards in place? Theme parks are busy places. Social distancing measures are there to slow down the rate of infection and do not prevent you from getting Covid-19. The only way to prevent getting Covid-19 is to shield which is what we are doing by not leaving your home and not to have face to face contact.

Looks like a bit of a PR stunt to me, if the agent was that effective then I think hospitals and the like would be all over it.

The first of Merlin’s Resort theme parks reopened yesterday (Heide Park, Germany). This gives a good idea of some of the operational changes that could well be replicated at other parks such as Alton Towers, with changes to account for different regulations in the different counties of course.

Headline stuff:

- Prebooking tickets is mandatory, no ticket offices will be open. Merlin Pass and Season pass holders must prebook at a cost of €1pp.
- When prebooking you must also select an arrival time to manage the number of guests at the entrance at any one time.
- If you turn up without a ticket you can buy one online via your phone if they haven’t sold out for that day.
- Masks must be worn at all times (except when eating)
- Fastrack and ride photos are not available
- Food is sold on a ‘to-go’ basis only with the likes of Pizza Pasta being closed altogether.

In the hotels:
- Screens have been installed at reception and only one person per group can queue up to check in
- Buffet restaurants are not self serve. Staff members will serve the food for guests.

I think the photo sales is just because of picsolve.

That's a lot of restrictions and inconvenience.

I think I'll pass on theme parks for now if the same policies are introduced in the UK. I can't imagine there being much demand at all to be honest.

You're failing to account for the crazy MAP-holding group that spend literally every weekend at the parks...

...

IL be going regardless but that's because I NEED to, opinion seems quite split in the map group on if people will be going or not.

I will be going as soon as I can once the park opens; I don’t think the restrictions would bother me, and I frankly can’t wait to get back into the park and experience some of the attractions again!

It just sounds miserable. Not pinning anything on Merlin or how they operate here, but these procedures are going to sap all the fun and atmosphere of visiting theme parks; this goes for the others as well. Not to mention it's still being put at unnecessary risks in terms of health, no matter how many precautions are put in place.

I'm feeling less and less inclined to visit until we are truly out of the woods and can properly enjoy the parks again without having wait times dramatically enhanced as a result.
