Lock down purchases

I was just wondering if anyone has found themselves buying more things during lock down or maybe purchasing something they probably wouldn't have done so normally?

We've just ordered a telescope, never had one before so it's a beginners one. I also got a ukulele a few weeks ago.... need to spend more time practising....Generally though it been stuff that we are so used to going into a shop and buying, like candles, and now it's finding them online for a good price. A few weeks ago, early into the lock down, there were black market prices on hamster food of all things, so we spent ages trying to find a bulk deal, when usually we buy a bag when we need it.

Then there have been "treats". If we go out for the day we normally bring back cakes or pies, so it's been finding companies online, like Betty's that deliver something to cheer us up a bit.

Also HMV and music magpie have done well from us, they have had some great deals and again it's just missing being able to flick through DVD's and CD's and seeing what is available.

I am a key worker, or so I am told by my boss who is working from home. Well that caretaking in education for you.

So i have bot had time to add to things to do. I taken a week off to catch up with stuff i need to do.

I purchased hair clippers and hairdressing scissors and have learn't to do my own hair, and I've not done a bad job for my first time.

At the start we purchased some face mask and shields just in-case I had to go out for anything, so far, I haven't needed to go out for anything as I get everything delivered here.

For when we do venture out, I've also purchased some no touch copper hook thingy's (Copper alloy is a natural disinfectant which kills most germs and virus when comes into contact) to open doors and can use to push buttons for when we are out and about.

I also purchased some plants for the garden as well as growing my own veg. I also put in a couple of garden water features as well as made a couple of my own.

Apart from above, I can't say that I've really purchased anything that I wouldn't have done if the lock-down didn't happened.

Oh Jess also wanted some of these to go around the garden, so at a later date, I will landscape these in by laying some proper foundation. Just for now, I've just set them up on the patio, these weren't cheap

I've actually bought very little. Got myself the Lego ISS set. More recently I got myself a Raspberry Pi 4, partly to use as a second monitor (with mouse/keyboard shared with my main PC) and partly to code with. I did think about the Lego Monkey Kid sets but I decided to rebuild some of the Lego sets I already have first.

My work (garden centre) has started trading online which encouraged my dad to buy some tools and plants and stuff. He's been working from home the past few years but I think the stress of lockdown has pushed him to get into the garden more.

Just stocks and shares really as I've been at work throughout so not had time to do anything else. Got some tech funds and AMD and Microsoft at the moment as well as a couple of more general US/UK funds in an ISA.

Beer! Lots of weird and wonderful beer. With bars being closed I've justified to myself that spending what I would have done going out on beer delivery instead is acceptable. Considering I've worked straight through I shouldn't have had the opportunity to drink more than usual, but somehow I've found a way!

The only thing I’ve bought so far is a brand new iPad Air 10.5” to replace my iPad mini 4, but I wouldn’t exactly call that a small purchase for me! I’d been thinking of buying a larger iPad for a while, and combined with the battery on my old iPad going, I thought it represented a good opportunity. It was definitely a good choice on my part, as 3 weeks on from it arriving, I absolutely love my new iPad!

I’ve spent so far during lockdown ordering different beer from local breweries. Tho currently I’ve got that bored during lockdown I’ve been buying anything on eBay up to £3 including postage.

What's your local, any recommendations?

Hop Shop Aberdeen are very much not local to me but have a great selection and free delivery if you spend enough, so I've used them a bit. It's mad that it's significantly cheaper to have beer brewed in London delivered to me from Scotland than it is to get it anywhere locally in Essex!

Another call for beer. Have spent a fortune on it! We’ve been supporting a couple of local pubs and breweries, but have also put a couple of large orders in from Tiny Rebel.

I’m not to sure what to suggest so far :D I’ve started of buying local then I found you can buy it cheaper online then it is locally. I mainly buy the 5l keg so I’ve had about 7/8 delivered so far from around the uk.

Nice. I was trying to justify picking up one of the 5l keg sours released by Wild Weather last week, but I can't really with only me drinking it in the house with no visitors!

they normally have about 8/9 pints in them. I tend to open one on Friday and then make it last the weekend. These 5l kegs have been a blessing in disguise, now my mrs is back she ends up most Friday nights online clothes shopping. I thought it was worse enough to go in person ah jaysus.

That’s funny! I’ve just bought a new 10.5 inch iPad Air 3 to also replace my ageing iPad mini 4 . I spend so much time watching Netflix on it now it seems like a good time to upgrade!

Oh. I did buy my daughter thinning scissors so she could do her own and her mums hair.

I spent a small fortune on an extremely rare PSTV and the surprisingly rare Persona 4 Golden...at least it took up a good chunk of lockdown!

It's really interesting reading what is keeping us all going, a lot of booze I notice, lol. :p

No one in our house drinks, so it's mainly the lack of freedom to buy a slice of cake or a doughnut (why won't they sell jam filled ones online??) that's been getting me.

Greenhalghs has been a saviour in that department. Lancashire pasties and a Flake cake delivered to your door. Huzzah! Local butchers have had an amazing click and collect system in places for family pies as well. Generally don't eat that many pies, however I can make exceptions for a global pandemic.

Obviously getting garden plants/compost/etc has been a pain right the way through as the garden is a huge thing for me this time of year, so although we usually buy stuff we have ended up buying more because most places have had a minimum spend before they would deliver.

I ended up buying a new monitor (splashed out on a 27" curved one... ooh matron), as well as a new set of headphones. Both out of necessity really to improve my setup whilst working from home. :)
