London Entertainment Resort: All Discussion

OK I'm going to point out the below to clear up factual inaccuracies you've posted. Fair enough if you don't want to take on board what I and many others have said, but the below needs clearing up for others who may be reading the topic.

One more time. There. Is. Not. £3.5bn. To. Spend. This is the claimed cost of the project if they get the investors on board. There is not billions to burn through by 2378, they need to attract this money on top of the money they're spending already.

This goes back to what I said in my last post. Away from the promise of public consultation, what momentum have we seen away from the press regurgitating that press release? There is no physical thing I can see that indicates progress or an increase in momentum. If anything, momentum has slowed since all of the previous work done has been removed from the website.

See above. There is no source of money. KEH have not stated anywhere the amount of funds that they're putting in. What they have said if they'll withdraw what funding they are putting in if progress isn't made. KEH Sports is a related company that has failed to pay the wages of a lower league football club. Does that indicate a source of money, and especially one which can be relied upon?

As mentioned on another of my previous posts. They have only secured the potential purchase of some of the land. They have not bought it, nor have they abided by their commitment to buy it within the original timeframe, that timeframe has had to be extended multiple times. I can see no information publicly mentioning any further land has been secured recently, so again this goes back to there being no solid proof of momentum.

They're not in the past when they keep saying the same things again with no tangible changes.

And likewise if you read up on the history of some of the other figureheads behind the project, i.e. KEH you'll see they have no industry experience and a worrying track record of being completely useless with money.

I think I've addressed all I can with you on this. It's clear that you want to blindly support this project no matter what. Yes you're being critical about the IP, but you're failing to acknowledge the numerous other points everyone else has made against more recent developments. Not giving up doesn't get you anywhere in business unless you're still actually progressing, and that's not been the case to date.
I may have phrased some of the things I said badly, because that’s not what I meant in some cases, but I guess maybe I’m just kidding myself because of how badly I want something like this to happen. When you spell it out like that to me, I guess it is a deeply flawed project in many ways, and I’m trying very hard to take on board what you’ve all said to me, but I guess their hype machine is too good for me to resist at times. I hope you understand; I’m not trying to shun what you guys are saying by any means.

I guess I find it difficult not to get swallowed into the developers’ enthusiasm in the press, because a) I’m very enthusiastic about it myself and b) they phrase it so compellingly in the press releases, like they’re so sure about what they’re doing and that everything is in place for it to happen. When they say it so attractively, it makes me go “Wow, everything is falling into place for this to happen and it’s going to be awesome!” as opposed to asking the questions you guys are asking.

On a side note, I think they should stop calling it Disneyland London in the media, as I think most people genuinely believe that Disney is coming to Britain. A while back, I was walking through the corridor at school when I overheard two girls talking about “going to Disneyland London in 2024 and meeting Mickey Mouse”...

My aunt also came to me, immensely excited about “Disney in Britain”... and seemed very disappointed when I told her what the Resort actually was.

I've lost count of how many friends have asked me about London Resort and how many actually take the press releases seriously.

I guess I’ll just have to see where the project is at the end of 2020, as that does seem to be somewhat of a critical date at the moment.

Tbf, I still think this has a better chance than Thorpe getting a new coaster.

But that's like saying it's more likely finding Tupac alive than finding Elvis alive.

It'll be exactly where it is right now.

Still no closer to escaping the pages of fiction.
I guess we’ll have to wait and see! I’m intrigued to see the environmental report and public consultations when they come out, and if this year has taught me anything, it’s that nothing is ever truly impossible!

I could become the Queen of England. Technically not impossible, but about as unlikely as this ever to happen.
I suppose there is the factor of relative possibility; it’s technically not impossible that I could single-handedly raise the £3.5bn required to build the project within the next month. However, it is very, very, very, very (repeat about 1000 more times) unlikely; I’m probably far more likely to get struck by lightning, and the chances of that are microscopic!

However, I think the relative possibility of the London Resort coming to fruition is much higher than the relative possibility of either of the scenarios we just mentioned coming true!

Merlin are more likely to be proven competent and their festering dumpholes nearby are testament to that not happening anytime soon.

That’s all down to opinion; I don’t personally see an issue with Merlin’s levels of competency, but each to their own!

But before this extends into a big long debate, my point is; even though the project has had its ups, downs and various flaws, I will stand by it and be its cheerleader. I want it to happen and I think there’s still a chance it could happen.

All I will say is we will all look really stupid if the London Resort actually happens

I already look stupid, but I'm happy for everyone who stands by it to abuse me if it ever opens.

Okaaaay

On a different note, was it intentional for them to hire a construction consultant called Alan Crane? It certainly made me giggle when I read it!

I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree with regards to this project. I fully accept you guys’ very valid concerns, but I will try and support the project; I think there’s a definite chance it could happen. We’ll have to wait and see who ultimately ends up being right.

I honestly can’t even think of getting optimistic it’s too much of high risk investment. The way to build a park that works best is to start off with a small investment and build your way up. Doing that option can take so many years tho. But it’s work many times in the uk park industry that it’s the only viable option going forward. Paulton’s opened in 1983 and only recently has started getting more and more credit for how the park has invested. Oakwood built by a family of farmowners they got their name on theme park map by building an awesome woodie but that took nearly 10 years. The list can go on and on but the point I’m making is that if you jump straight into the deep end it’s a major risk that can turn sour very quickly and become more of financial burden but the proven success in the uk is to start off with small low risk investment and then let it grow in its own time.

Spoiler: it won’t be you.

Matt, I admire you for sticking to your guns so resolutely despite the overwhelming evidence you’ve been presented with, and for someone so young to speak with eloquence regardless of the subject matter is much to your credit.

But “I think we’ll just have to agree to disagree” made me want to scream into the void. This project is never, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever happening - no matter how buoyed you are by the sight of a couple of press releases. Case closed.

I honestly don’t mean to come across stubborn or confrontational in these debates. I’m just not really sure what you all want me to say; what I say are my true opinions, and I’d rather not lie to you all. I apologise for my posts in this thread, but I’m only trying to be completely honest with you all. You make some very valid points, but I’m not sure we’ll ever completely agree unless a very significant development in the project occurs.

Maybe I’ll stick to the forum’s other threads until a significant development occurs with this project.
