Efteling: General Discussion

Personally I think it looks a bit dull, but I'm told by a passholder that it's better than it looks :) It definitely should be longer though!

It looks really nice for the young families, in my opinion! The station and queue look very nicely themed, and powered coasters often have really good universal appeal, in my opinion; you see people of pretty much all ages riding and enjoying RMT at Alton, so while this perhaps doesn’t look quite as thrilling as RMT, I think it could be a very good crowd-pleaser for Efteling’s more family-orientated demographic! I also think that the interactions and dueling elements could offer a fun and unique twist on the ride type; as far as I’m aware, isn’t this the first time a dueling powered coaster has ever been built?

If I was to offer a minor criticism, then I think it could perhaps have done with a bit more theming during the ride itself, but I suppose the planting they’ve done will probably grow and hide parts of the ride over time, and it could offer some nice near miss opportunities with the ride once it’s grown a little!

On the whole, however, I think it does look like a really nice little ride for its intended audience!

First ever Dueling coasters to run in the opposite direction?

It's not a bad idea but I don't think the layout does it justice. The 2 rides only ever meet once. If they had instead immediately done a U turn out of the station they could have crossed over at the start and repeated the pattern (with some variance of course) to keep crossing multiple times. As it is besides the one chasing helix they feel like separate coasters.

I think the two sides of Gwazi faced opposite directions when they operated, but don’t quote me on that.

I also think capacity may have been part of the reason that Efteling went for the dueling element as well as ride experience. Max & Moritz’s two sides combined apparently have a theoretical capacity of 1,800 riders per hour. While 900 riders per hour (I presume this would be the capacity of each track on its own?) is not a bad throughput by any means, Efteling gets over 5 million guests per year now, and I think they are aiming to increase this further in the years to come (I could have sworn I saw that they wanted to increase to 7-9 million by 2030, although who knows how COVID will affect this target). The park’s manager also allegedly wants high throughput attractions.

It looks like a lovely family ride, but it feels like it could have been more. Perhaps some rockwork or an indoor scene of some sort.

There’s just nothing which seems to stand out about it as an addition. I think if it weren’t replacing an existing ride, you could perhaps cut it a little more slack.

The ride itself looks ok, picks up some speed on the second lap. It certainly fills a gap in the lineup for younger visitors.

But as others have said it’s lacking theming and the queue looks disappointing for Efteling standards.

Agreed, they look much better on the second lap.

I’d certainly consider this just a filler attraction, but the even as that it feels considerably less developed than Efteling’s other rides. It feels rather plonked down, and the queueline looks like a real afterthought (I know Efteling love a cattlepen sometimes, but at least there’s usually something there, theming wise).

I really hope that they’re planting some fast growing, tall trees around the back of this though. The cinema building feels very exposed and obvious now, when it was pretty well hidden before.

In a park with the land to ride ratio that Efteling has, you'd have thought they could have nicely themed non-cattlepen queue lines. It's a shame really, one of the only things that lets the park down.

Most of the queues at Efteling are already unthemed cattlepens though?

Dreamflight, Baron, Symbolica, Carnival Festival & Vogel Rok are pretty much the usual standard of queueline. Dutchman is pretty much the exception to the rule (Joris is ok, at least not a cattlepen).

I've always found it weird that they have a huge difference in ride building and queue level themeing. But it's not the first time they've been guilty of an awful looking cattlepen of death.

Next coaster is going to be the big thrill thing if they can get the planning permission approved. Which is having issues with the locals so no idea where they'll go with it.

Considering the nature of Efteling it's strange that they didn't have a children's coaster before, so you can see why they've gone with such a tame coaster. It is poorly executed though by their standards.

Also Bob was over-rated anyway *runs*.

Also Bob was over-rated anyway *runs*.

As a self-proclaimed Bob fanboy, it wasn't that the coaster was especially amazing or well presented, it was the unique and somewhat wild nature of the ride that held appeal. I haven't ridden anything like it and I can't think of any other examples of the ride type off the top of my head.

In contrast, this could not be a more generic ride. Every park owner and his dog owns a Mack powered coaster and this seems to be one of the dullest.

Still, as others have said, there is logic to the addition. Also, the station is pretty.

It's so damned slow... in fact there's such a marked difference between the first and second lap, I'd be willing to bet that it's programmed to be slower on the first lap, almost as a 'warm up' I guess for very young or novice riders...

For a park the standard of Efteling, this is weak.

There is no theming outside of the station and the cattle pen is not great.

Odd.
Agreed, but in that respect it's very much like Baron, no? Fantastic theming in the station, and in Baron's case the drop, but otherwise very bland and unthemed, with a fairly 'meh' queueline

The problem with this is that the station was already there. It's not as if they've created some thematic masterpiece from the ground up as they have on previous occasions.

I didn't realise it was the same station - to be fair it's been themed so heavily you couldn't easily tell, so I don't think that's a fair criticism... (unlike criticism towards the rest of the ride, which is entirely justified!)
