It's when people don't follow the rules. Student on another campus has mild symptoms, phone for a test then turns up to college for a practical assessment.
Go for testing after it and it come back positive.

We have 2 staff and 10 students isolating now due to his.
Area is locked, until cleaners can deep clean.

Selfish sod.

You could also suggest that it's unusual for an Influenza virus to suddenly evolve into a strain that kills 50 million people (including many young, healthy people), but that's what happened in 1918 and I don't think anybody tried to say that was engineered in a laboratory.

True, but influenza has been around in humans for a very long time. It has evolved in that time to know the human body. What scientists are puzzled about with this virus is that given its new in humans, the ways in which it reprograms cells, produces these tentacles and avoids detection by the immune system would normally take years to develop as the virus needs time to adapt to the human host. This virus seems to have done it in record time all within 6 months.....

Yeah sure it's possible, but as scientists have called it..... It is sinister the way it behaves once in the host.

^Let's be careful not to confuse "some scientists" with "all scientists" - there's definitely, categorically, no consensus within Science that this pathogen is likely to have been developed synthetically...

I find it all very confusing; there’s such a wide-ranging consensus between different scientists, it can get so confusing when you’re trying to read things and get information.

However, my personal view is that it came from a wet market, or if it did come from a lab, it was an accidental leak.

People have perfectly valid reasons for believing what they do, and I respect other people’s beliefs and theories, but I can’t personally understand why China would want to intentionally leak this virus. China as a country has suffered just as much as every other country in the world; the only difference is that everything happened earlier over there. They’ve still had the loss of lives and strain on their healthcare system. Their economy has been damaged just as much as everyone else’s. Personally, I’m not sure why they’d want to commit such a drastic act of self-harm to their country.

Besides, they’re one of the G20 nations. They’re one of the biggest global powers. They have good relationships with the major powers in the Western world and other powers in the Eastern world as well. They have only good intentions towards other countries; they wouldn’t want to harm other countries by releasing a lethal virus.

China wants to be the dominant force in the world, along with Russia. They have had enough of the west and the USA calling the shots. You only have to see how China has been investing in its military lately and also using it.

As for the virus, probably was an unintentional leak if it did come from a lab, but the greatest economic losses will be in the west, not China.

They certainly do not have good intentions towards other countries. Have a look at the way they have been towards Australia since they asked for an independent investigation into the source of the virus......

This is a good read about what is going on at the moment...

Some better news coming in from China; on 25th June, the first coronavirus vaccine was approved for limited use in the military. CanSino’s vaccine has been approved for use on China’s soldiers, although it has not yet been approved for wider public use: https://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/20...cine-approved-use-countrys-military-clinical/

With regards to the new flu strain, it hasn’t spread to humans yet, and they’ve also said that they can adapt the existing flu vaccine to deal with it. They adapt the flu vaccine easily every year, so I don’t see why they couldn’t with this strain.

I doubt that's voluntary for them.......
It’s not currently known whether it’s voluntary or mandatory.

Still, it’s a good sign that a vaccine has been approved for human use outside of trials! And it’s only June 2020; considering the originally touted timeline was “12-18 months, possibly longer”, I’d say we’re doing quite well to be having any humans injected at all outside of trials!

There's voluntary then there's the "D"PRK style voluntary which PRC like to use.

Remember; this has not spread to humans yet. The scientists are probably trying to work out a solution so that if it does spread to humans (and that’s a big if), then we can quickly apply a solution in order to prevent something like COVID-19 from happening again.

Frankly, I think it’s a good thing that it’s been discovered while it’s still only in pigs; as I said above, that means that our disease specialists can get to work producing a faster solution for if it does ever spread to humans!
EDIT: There were two human cases discovered, but they were in 2016 and 2019. I’d suggest we’re OK for now.

So Leicester is the first City to have a localised lockdown, people being told to stay at home, with schools and non essential shops closed from tomorrow.

So it begins. The second wave. The second wave people seemed to think we wouldn't get because it had not happened yet. Depite us being one of the hardest hit countries. Despite us not being over the first wave and despite history telling us that second waves do not happen as fast as people seemed to think it would. The hospital admissions at the moment though. Seems relatively low. Time will tell how minor or serious it will get.

Leicester is not a huge distance from Alton Towers, or even Drayton Manor for that matter. Both about an hour travel time. Let's hope the lockdown stops it from spreading. Although, from the scenes of selfish people we have seen across the country, I fear that may not be the case.

With this now happening, anything could happen. Themeparks and pubs could be closing again in a month.

People are not taking social distancing seriously anymore. We have reached covid fatigue for most.
Some don't care, some think it gone.

The best comment i heard is "well it not a problem anymore, the government would not of stopped the updates if its not all over"

The lets stand in front of a camera. Smile and give stats that keep changing the units they are shown in % one week, number of patients using them the next.

I'm a bit bemused by the local lockdown in Leicester. So hospitality won't open and non-essential shops and schools will close again, but what's to stop people travelling outside of Leicester to get their shopping or drinking fix?

If you're not going to contain people within the local lockdown area it could be self-defeating and potentially spread the virus to neighbouring areas.

I wouldn’t go and declare it a second wave just yet. It’s just a cluster; plenty of countries have had them.

China had various clusters in places like Beijing & Wuhan. Germany has had various clusters in places like North Rhine-Westphalia and Gottingen. South Korea has had clusters in Seoul.

I think that these isolated local outbreaks will be the way the pandemic goes from now on, personally.

Yes it’s not a second wave yet. But once it spreads from one city to the next then that’s when it gets serious. Unlike most countries England is only tiny so a spread to another city and town it’s really easy. As many people pointed out there’s nothing stopping people travelling from Leicester to other parts of the uk so obviously it will spread but it’s a guessing game how far.

As I say, it might just be a cluster. Currently, I think that’s very likely. Boris’ “whack-a-mole” strategy, as he calls it, is designed to deal with local outbreaks. A second wave is not a given by any means.
