TT site content

never thought of this :( Jesus holy christ the archives!

Theres some pictures on there that got me fired! Id like them back :)

Id suggest people get their pictures back if they copyrighted them to themselves....

I believe that SOME topics (such as the RCT stuff, or so I have heard) have been archived, though I don't know how much. All praise to the team for doing it.

Its fair to say the law is a little sketchy around who owns content - TT isn't a business, nor any kind of registered legal entity, so its a complete grey area as to who 'owns' any content (we spoke to our nice lawyers friends to check this out mind!).

That said, we do respect that what is available at TT is available at TT, and we don't plan to redisplay any of that content en masse.

Single topics from the forum we are working on to be imported upon request by the topic owner, although it looks a arduous task, we'll gladly try it for anyone who really wants their topic back, but thats a little down the pipeline at the moment.

With regards to your photos etc, you are welcome to contact site admins or the team to ask them to remove them, just obviously provide details of the content and where it is located. to them. You are probably best to contact Chris TT by email at [email protected] to do this.

I know some people will ask about the new site that was being built for TT; I took the difficult decision to remove the work of myself, Ian and James from TT as we didn't feel it was right to surrender that what wasnt in the public domain yet anyway. That may or may not be reincarnated in some form to what we are building today, but we're not really confirming exactly yet as the TS team need to confer about all these loverly technicalities :D

Hope that helps :)

It would just be a shame to see everyones hard work and stuff in general be left not out of spite just literally because of the hard work and hours of effort people have put in.

Like you said a lot of stuff wont have copyright ownership or has been done by the team so they should claim it as their own and at least have copies of things they have written. I suppose it depends on where the website is going to head.

The content (especially the history side of things) was incredible, something which you cannot find anywhere, but everything current can be recreated. If TS has an adjoined website and isnt just a forum I most definitely think the history section could re-appear. Perhaps to be renamed "the archive" ? and based around the idea it is a real place, much like the real one!

Topics/Current pictures/Writing can all be recreated and improved upon, but the back catalog of pictures/plans/videos/audio etc can not

We do plan to have a website attached, but obviously the community is the biggest aspect we're focusing on right now.

Obviously we'll look into what we can do, but we do have one of the best guys around when it comes to Towers History (Squiggles, aka Phil!) who Im sure will work damn hard to give us an edge once again :)

I'm sure it will happen though, give us time :D

I'd like to beg ask for new No Limits/RCT3 section of the forum, pretty please! :p

I'm probably alone on this one, but I think fan sites have outgrew the days of needing to cover every aspect of their respective theme park in great detail - particularly a park such as Alton Towers where a lot of the information is available elsewhere anyway. Remember, a lot of the longstanding fan sites were originally created during a time when said details were not available elsewhere, therefore there was a need to cover it. I'm not so sure this need exists today.

I'd much rather see TowersStreet place a focus on quality news updates and opinion pieces than on information that really, the community no longer has a need to know. I know this will have some affect on traffic coming in to the site from those who are planning a visit to the park and are on the lookout for information which may come in handy, but I think approaching TowersStreet from a different angle will be what sets you guys apart from the pack and stops the website from coming across as TTF 2, only under a different skin.

A fine example of what I'm suggesting would be DLRP Today. Yes, they have a sister site (DLRP Magic!) which covers everything from admission prices to restaurant reviews, but I've always seen DLRP Today as the driving force behind it all and the one that I visit the most.

By taking a news blog approach, you'll be able to cover a lot more of the smaller stories that historically never made it on to TT's home page and were subsequently lost in the crowd on the forum.

Just a thought. :)

A few legal niceties here, but it's worth mentioning that any content on the TowersTimes Wiki is/was licensed under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-NoDerivs license, which gives anyone full permission to copy and reuse it elsewhere provided that it is attributed to the original authors.

This potentially means that we could legally have a TowersStreet Wiki holding all the original content of the TowersTimes Wiki, as long as any of the content we copied over had a notice somewhere crediting it as "originating from the TowersTimes Wiki" or something.

Long live the Wiki! :)

Most of the archive content belongs to Me, Wayne or Shockadelica. Anything added to the main TT site since 2007 either belongs to TT or the people who supplied it.

I have everything here in hard copy and its free to a good home. Old photos taken with digital camera that's on TT still belong to me and can be used. Many of the archive videos belong to me. Area and ride music and sounds are pretty much available on the main 3 Alton sites, lol I nabbed them from anywhere and argued the music belong to no one but Alton Towers, so if it's on the internet then it will be on TT, so all the music is up for grabs.

Thanks for all the great offers guys we will be looking into all of it ASAP.

As for the focus of the site we indeed think news drives fan-sites these days, we do want an overall appeal though so we will probably have a lot of the information stuff you get on a lot of fan-sites (thankfully a lot of that is already written).

We will just have to see where it goes :)

*waves* hellooooo

When the time is right I'll happily hand over my behind the scenes tour pictures.

Just get Squiggles to give me a nudge ;)

I gave a few of my pictures to TT (including the one of Th13teen's entrance being used for all the Dark Forest pages). I am more than happy to allow both sites to use my images if it's legally allowable to do so.

I agree with Nathan - its very simple to find other sites with all of the needed information for Alton Towers, which is why I think we should approach the new site by making it interactive with the forum members. We could have weekly polls and competitions. Articles could be a mix of AT news and user-submitted articles about various rides, the state of the park, how they would develop the park in the future, for example. Of course, these would have to be moderated and picked by the staff, but I think it would be a nice way to make TowersStreet unique while involving the members.

Great offers, perhaps an upload program could be put in place for everyone to supply their own pictures/video/audio and allow an influx of media?

That would require a pretty large Bandwidth & Disk Space on the Server. I don't know the current set up behind the scenes of Towers Street, but having worked at a Web Hosting company, I know that allowances don't come cheap...

I know there used to be this facility, and I think for what this site hopes to become, it will not be an issue.

Exactly. Statistics show that people are far more likely to come back to your website if content is kept fresh.

I can't be the only one who completely bypassed the TT site and just bookmarked the forum?

The launch of TowersStreet is the perfect opportunity to change this.

One thing that I have been thinking of, is having a 'Creative Corner' topic, where people can post various things that they have made- it could include RCT, No Limits, art and websites. Just somewhere for people to dump all of their creations ;)
I was also wondering, if something like this were to possibly happen would be if there were small (themed to certain goings on or areas of interest?) competitions in each dependent 'creative area'- as an example for a possible RCT one a task could be to design and create a beach styled theme park, with rides and theming around, say, pirates. (this one could come in around Summer) But this might get repetitive after some time, and ideas may be hard to come by after some time.

  • Hey guys,

I was just thinking and came up with a few suggestions for the new site :)
    • I also love the idea of more regular and involving RCT/NoLimits competitions. Also, like on TowersNerd (for example) they host RCT items related to Towers in the media section. With the ridiculous amount of modelling skill that can be found here, surely someone could offer something that draws in a the RCT crowd? It'd boost popularity, I'm sure.
    • The 'Review' section needs improvement in my opinion. It'd be better if it could be found on the individual ride page, next to pictures etc. rather than in the forums. Also, a nice rating system for each attraction could be quite cute?
    • It's a shame the Tavern had to close so soon, it'd be nice if it made a return with a more 'pub-like' atmosphere. This sparked off the idea of a jukebox next to the shoutbox - users could select (and possibly even upload - I believe such tools exist) their music, and it would serve as a background radio. Obviously for annoyance reasons it has an on/off switch ;)

Naturally you have many more priorities at the moment and my ideas are probably a bit naff anyway, but perhaps in the long-term you may be able to adapt these to something helpful? It's lovely to see such progress, anyway! :D
