Theme Park Worldwide

This conversation is madness. It doesn't need to be justified to anyone. There's nothing to justify.

It does not go against any advice, there is no restriction on or advice against travel to any of these places or what you should do on return. If there was a danger in visiting these locations the home office would be advising against all but essential travel (like they were weeks ago), but there's not so they aren't. It's more dangerous to visit many parts of the UK right now. Holding people to standards which are based on your own lack of knowledge or understanding of current advice is a bit silly.

Now looks like the perfect time to travel to many foreign parks, cheap flights, rentals and accomodation, quite parks. We should all be out there making the most of it.

I'd say it's not good for their image rather than the case of it being legal, that's a whole other matter. He's just not setting a good example to some of his younger subscribers. If they see him travelling from his "mega trip" without isolating or even leaving it time to publicly announce you're visiting a theme park they're going to think "well, if he can travel Europe and then go to a UK theme park then I don't have to distance from my friends." Whether people like it or not, he's an influence to some younger subscribers and it does show carelessness towards what's going on. Those that don't fully understand the seriousness definitely won't now.

What have those two things got to do with each other? As far as I can see he's been following the rules with masks and distancing solidly (not that I've watched more than a few snippets of him, because all vloggers make me want to smash my head through a table), so is setting an excellent example.

He's also not set a bad example in travelling in general, as again THERE IS NO RESTRICTION OR ADVICE AGAINST TRAVEL TO THESE COUNTRIES. It cannot then be considered, using any rational thought process, irresponsible to do so.

I'm not questioning the legality of his actions. He's not broken any rules. But I do have an opinion on his actions that many others will share.

To compare let's take drinking as an example. It's perfectly legal to drink achole. If you so wish you can go out and get wasted every day of the week. There's no crime in that but you will be frowned upon for doing so as it's not considered responsible behaviour. There's also a very high chance doing so will eventualy lead to someone being hurt (even if its just your liver).

Likewise;
It's perfectly legal to travel. If you so wish you can go traveling every day of the week. Theres no crime in that but you will open yourself up to a dramaticly increased chance of infection.

Just as in the case of the alcoholic people will judge you for it and I don't think that's unreasonable to do. I'd certainly think twice before going near someone who within the last 2 weeks has been in contact with thousands of other people across multiple locations.
But not everyone will feel that way, which is also fine.

Personally, I feel any unnecessarily travelling during a pandemic is not a wise thing to do. However, the tourist and travel business needs us to do so to survive.

From what I've seen of Shawn's blogs filmed during the covid crisis, is that not only has he been responsibly following the social distancing and mask wearing rules, but he has also been wearing the face masks way long before they became mandatory, not just inside enclosed spaces, but also in open air too.

As a vlogger he has been going around reporting various social distancing measures in place around the world, so what is the different between him swanning around the world reporting compared to when you turn on your TV and watch a news reporter reporting a different news story from a different part of the world each day?

The bottom line here, is to get the right balance between getting the economy going, but also following the rules and keeping this virus under control.

I've only have to look outside my door each day to see our neighbours are not following the social distancing rules.

It's about as irresponsible as any of the American vloggers who insist who going to Universal to show off Velocicoaster every day.

People are rightful to be concerned that travel to an area could be troublesome, even if you follow the "correct" procedures (every park seems to be varying levels of processes in place).

The worry more so is that the reasoning behind the daily videos is that he (and many others) are a slave to the YouTube algorithm. It turns something that should be fun to a constant stream of people having to manufacture some form of content. Very evidenced during lockdowns.

I personally think any unnecessary travelling abroad by anyone is irresponsible at a time when most of Europe is only beggining to get a grip on Covid, but that's his choice.

There's plenty of people I know booking trips to Europe even with the uncertainty of everything so he's not alone, highlights first world problems when people talk about needing a holiday away like it's a matter of life or death.

And it literally is at the minute too.

Anyway, to be fair to them they are going to theme parks and not other places. Most theme parks have Covid restrictions in places, other tourist destinations don't.

Stop press! "Person travels to a country they are legally allowed to".

Not sure why people are spitting feathers.

I think it is more a question of morality rather legality (which is subjective of course).

He's entitled to go wherever he wants if it's legal, as is everybody else, it just seems to me that during a pandemic it might be wise to stay closer to home for the time being unless you really have to.

The is he right to travel debate is all down to the individuals thought on covid and how they think it should be controlled.

The only real question is did he do it safety.

We are all being encouraged to get back out into society and spend...in shops, theme parks, bars and cafes...by the powers that be.
What he is doing is moral, legal, decent, honest and truthful.
To not do so, in my mind, would be immoral.
Takes all sorts, doesnt it?

Spitting feathers? Not sure anybody's mentioned being thirsty here.

DEFINITION
Spitting-feathers
i) To be very thirsty, usually for a nice cup of tea (or cuppa).

- A metaphor for the mouth being so dry it feels like it's full of feathers.

ii) To be very angry - foaming at the mouth.

- With the flecks of saliva flying from the mouth (when enraged) being likened to feathers.
i) Aw man, after swigging that salt I'm spitting-feathers. You want a cuppa?

ii) You should have seen him - he was spitting-feathers. I only stroked his beard once.

Both meanings are in common usage, in the south of England you're unlikely to find people using it in the thirst sense.

Before we make accusations of jealousy some proof would be nice. I and others have both defended and critised TPWW in the past. It's the whole point of a discussion forum.

I won't deny that there are some people who do just want to take shots at TPWW and others like them. That's not a reason to assume all critsem is like that. Especially as the advise on social distancing is constantly changing.

Oh and for the record I'm sure Shawn would give up on YouTube in a heartbeat if I offered him my job.

For some reason whenever anyone dislikes or disagrees with anything others always seem to assume it's jealousy.

I, for one, am not the biggest fan of Shawn or the whole TPW "thing", but I have my reasons for that - none of them being jealousy. I won't criticise others for liking Shawn, so I don't expect criticism for disliking him.

I certainly could not do what he does. I do not have the energy or commitment to go from park to park filming vlog after vlog. I also don't know how someone can truly enjoy experiencing a park when they spend all day with a camera pointed in their own face, but each to their own.
