YULLBE

The new YULLBE VR attraction was actually due to open at the end of last month but obviously with current lockdown it did not happen. No new timeframe has been given for the opening. However they did launch a new look website for it and have stepped up its social media presence recently. Website Link

The original press release:
The newly opened Rulantica Water Park will be the testing environment for a novel virtual reality experience in 2020. Visitors should be able to immerse their entire body in a virtual environment and explore it interactively.
The novelty 2020 in Rulantica should be nothing less than "the ultimate virtual reality experience", with which the "barriers of life" can be overcome. The prototype is being developed under the name "YULLBE" by Mack NeXT GmbH & Co KG, a company of the Mack Group, which operates both the Europa Park and the Rulantica Water Park.
According to Sven Meyer, director of Mack NeXT, "YULLBE" is one of the company's most important projects to date. The name is a play on words from English "You will be" and denotes the idea that you can be anything. "It basically describes what we are aiming for with our new VR experience: a completely new but also very variable experience," says Meyer.

The new virtual reality experience in Rulantica will be entered via a separate entrance via the entrance hall of the water park. There, visitors who have previously booked the experience for a specific time, are equipped with the necessary equipment: a small backpack with computer, a helmet with virtual reality glasses and headphones and microphone and hand and foot tracker. This is how the whole body is to be imaged in the virtual world. In two to three minutes, visitors should be fully prepared for the upcoming adventure.
Visitors should be able to move freely in a virtual, computer game-like world. Up to eight people per group can share the experience of sharing tasks together in the virtual world. Around 50 visitors per hour will be able to experience "YULLBE" in Rulantica. For the new virtual reality attraction there are two rooms with 200 square meters and 100 square meters of space available.

There will be a preshow room before the open space roaming room where the experience and activities take place. Same as EuroSat VR it will only be for those 14 years and older.

The new headsets for YULLBE.

As seen a while ago in testing, one of the interactive challenges will involve cycling apparently?

I know VR is definitely not the most popular thing among fans but if they can combine the high quality graphics of Crazy Bats with the roaming VR tech of Valerian/Eurosat VR I should be something quite interesting to try out whenever it does open. Also intrigued to see how successful is it as a separate midway for the resort.

This fits right into the "not putting things on my face that have been on someone else's face" policy that I will be adhering to for the foreseeable.

I am sure it will be cool though, the Ghostbusters things at Tussauds New York is the coolest use of VR I have experienced, far better than on a 'ride'.

It certainly looks an interesting concept and something that I would experience if I was to visit. Having said that, VR is surely one of the things that is not at all viable in the CV world that we live in. They surely cannot debut this until it has blown over, as Rick says I would not want to be putting this over my face when it has been on someone else's, even after some sanitisation!

"Not putting things on my face that have been on someone else's face"...
Mind reels with sarcastic replies Rick...but we are not in the Tavern.

Yeah I’m pretty sure the VR uptake will be limited for some considerable time.

Today's press conference from EP also revealed some new details about YULLBE.
- 30 minute long VR adventure using a new tracking system and new headsets with a wider view range.
- Contrary to the original report that claimed it would be housed in rooms just off the Rulantica entry foyer; now Michael Mack says it will be in a new location beside Rulantica.
- The story will revolve around the discovery of Rulantica and the Adventure Club of Europe. Robbemund will also be a part of this adventure.
- Attached to YULLBE will be a new restaurant as well. Thomas Mack said he is still working on a name for it.

So ACE VR or new Rulantica/Kronsar restaurant what are people more excited for? ;)

This is a strange marketing image but sure...

EDIT: Apparently it is set to open in August.

The marketing image contains Robbemond (Piraten in Batavia), the Voletarium drone, Svalgur (Rulantica) and Myra Moon (Traumatica).

Mad.

At least this is a separate ticket, separate building. I do like the Eurosat Coasiality product, I think it's really well refined and doesn't detract from the main Eurosat coaster. The Alpenexpress VR though, just needs to go really.

New information about the YULLBE experience and the first mission that will be available from an EP Blog post.
Tickets will be available from the beginning of August. No opening date is set yet, other than within the month of August. Staff start work on 1st August though according to the job advertisement for operators.

Given when I visited Rulantica 2 weeks ago the building was still a hole in the ground hope they better be speeding it up! No more information on the new restaurant I assume it will open later.

Become a superhero and go on a secret mission of the Adventure Club of Europe together with family or best friends: Yullbe makes the incredible possible! With Virtual Reality (VR), visitors immerse themselves in a fantastic world and solve difficult tasks as a team. Sven Meyer and Marcus Ernst from MackNext LAB give an exclusive insight into what awaits you in the new attraction soon! And also reveal why YULLBE is an absolute world sensation.

Sven and Marcus, what is Yullbe?
A new format for family entertainment that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Our motto is "Get over the barriers of life". With Yullbe you can be anything! You can become a superhero and master a tricky mission for real adventurers with your family and friends!

How important was it for you to design Yullbe as a group experience?
So far, virtual reality (VR) has mostly been something you can only experience on your own. I can only tell you how impressive it was, but you haven't seen it yourself. It was therefore very important to us that Yullbe is a shared experience. In Europa-Park, all attractions are about spending time together. At Yullbe, eight people in a team solve a big puzzle. The only requirement is that all players are at least 14 years old. Otherwise you don't have to know anything.

Why is Yullbe a world sensation?
In Yullbe, the player sees himself completely as an avatar from head to toe. This is called "full body tracking". When the player turns his own hands, the hands of his avatar also turn. When you do this for the first time, you look at your hands and feet and think: crazy, that's me! The family members and friends are all suddenly transformed. The players can move freely in the room, all necessary technology is in a compact backpack.

How does the transformation into the avatar happen?
The transformation takes place in the so-called pre-show. As a normal person, I enter the Yullbe building, put on the VR glasses, strap on my backpack, hand and foot tracker and then it starts straight away. A transformation takes place in the pre-show, you come into a new body and travel through time.

What can you tell us about the “Mission Rulantica” experience?
The players dive interactively into the story world of the legendary island of Rulantica, which is already told in the musical, the novel series and in the water world Rulantica itself. The players are recruits from Aces of ACE, the senior team of the Adventure Club of Europe (ACE). They are sent on an important mission: to close the source of life on the island of Rulantica. They have to deal with the sneaky god Loki and the dangerous sea snake Svalgur. If the mission succeeds, they may even be accepted into the Aces of ACE.

Do you have a personal highlight in the experience?
Yes! To solve an important task, one player turns into a 15-meter giant while the others keep their normal size. It's an amazing feeling! The scene is also so good because it perfectly describes the core of Yullbe: You will be ... In Yullbe you can be whoever or whoever you want. With Yullbe the limits of normal life can be exceeded. In the real world I cannot be 15 meters tall, in Yullbe I can!

Who is involved in the development of Yullbe?
The first ideas for Yullbe came from Michael Mack, without him the project would not have existed. The new VR attraction is a joint project of the entire Mack group. We at MackNext LAB work closely with VR Coaster, who developed a large part of the software and the VR platform, and with Dennis Gordt from Mack Rides, who led the hardware development. Europa-Park has 45 years of experience in operating attractions, which of course helps immensely. We developed the world's first tracking of 32 people at the same time with Vicon, a specialist in motion capture technology, who has already been involved in Hollywood productions such as "Star Wars" or "The Lord of the Rings".

Finally some practical information, please: Where is the Yullbe building and when can I reserve tickets?
The Yullbe building will be exactly between the Rulantica water world and the Krønasår adventure hotel. It was therefore only natural that visitors should immerse themselves in the history of the sunken island of Rulantica in their first Yullbe experience. But we are planning many more experiences! No technical knowledge is required and everyone who likes going to the cinema or concert has fun with Yullbe. Tickets are available from the beginning of August - exclusively on our website yullbe.com.

Meanwhile the building beside Kronasar has been fully erected. It was assembled from delivered components and seems quite temporary. I believe they wish to gauge how much demand there is from guests for YULLBE before building a permanent venue at the resort.

The YULLBE building has now recieved some printed facades. Allegedly someone with the initials RM wasn't pleased with its appearance and insisted on theming before opening. Just under 2 weeks until the announced opening now.
