Cedar Point: General Discussion

Sad to see Cedar Point having to move all the 150th anniversary celebration event and their new ride until 2021.

Hopefully their able to open in some capacity this season.
I’m hoping to rearrange my cancelled visit for the end of the month to next year now. I’ve received refunds on the flights and hotels, but keeping hold of the Gold Passes for use if we do go next year.

Yeah I got my money back on my flights the other week so have thankfully not lost any money on all this. Gutted though, was excellent visiting last year and was excited for Coastermania again.

Brilliant park Cedar Point is. Steel Vengeance is insane, as is Maverick and Dragster just has an intense launch. I'm glad I didn't book tickets yet this year because I wouldn't want all the hassle getting them refunded.

It could take years for a coaster to top Steel Vengeance, mainly because of how long it goes on for.

Look at Iron Gwazi, it looks incredible but where it hits the break run, SV would just be leaving the mid course.

I personally don't see a coaster topping SteVe (sorry @Rick ;)) for quite a while. As said above, it is insanely long for such an intense coaster and at no point does it even think about letting up. Iron Gwazi looks brilliant and I am sure that it will be a top coaster, but is it going to be better? I'm not at all sure.

The rumour mill is now as open as Cedar Point is at the moment. Rumours are circulating this car ride which i don't know much about and of course two hybrid Arrow rides, Cedar Creek Mine Ride and Gemini! I hope they don't remove either as i love my Arrow rides soo much! (Some of them, other rough ones yh)!

I think with the big deal they made of the Mine Rides 50th Anniversary last year its coming to the end of its life. The restraints are horrible as well.

The park has a second antique cars ride as well up near the front of the park so removing that wouldn't be a massive loss.

Personally if the mine ride goes I think they should be looking at a GCI of a similar vein to Mystic Timbers. I'm sure they'd fit it into the lovely Frontier town area really well.
No doubt they'll be able to break some records with its construction as well.

I hope they can keep Gemini as long as possible it was the tallest Rollercoaster in the world when it opened as was said to be Ron Toomers favourite ride of the ones he designed.

Would they build a GCI at CP so soon after they added Mystic Timbers at King's Island? That park isn't too far away and obviously owned by Cedar Fair too. It would give people less reason to visit KI if they add a better version at CP in my opinion.

The other biggish rumour is a B&M flyer. That would be underwhelming for me as I don't enjoy them that much, despite being a B&M fan boy, but it's definitely something they don't have and something Kings Island don't have either so would be unique to Ohio.

What I'd love to see them add is a Mach multi launch however the rumours suggest that's what they have earmarked for Kings Island next big coaster.

The B&M flyer is being touted as a likely idea because it would be very easy for them to break some flying coaster records in the same vein that Valravn broke all the Dive Coaster records when it opened. Flying coasters tend to be nowhere near as large as some other coaster types, so Cedar Fair could see this as bait to try and build a record-breaker at CP.

For some reference, the current tallest flying coaster is Tatsu at 170ft, and Flying Dinosaur and Tatsu are joint fastest at 62mph. The longest is listed as Flying Dinosaur at 3,687.6ft, but FLY at Phantasialand will allegedly be longer whenever it opens.

Combined with the fact that it would be unique to Ohio, as has already been said (the only remotely comparable thing that’s ever operated in Ohio is Firehawk), and that seems like a pretty compelling sell for Cedar Fair to me, and compelling sells are needed more than ever in the current era.

So the possible sites are this antique cars ride and the Cedar Creek mine ride and I think if you used both sites you could definitely fit a few coasters!

I doubt they will add two major coasters on those sites. They aren't the biggest of areas really so makes sense for them to combine the two and add another major thrill coaster. Don't think it will be open till 2023 though. I reckon the original rumoured plans of 2022 will be pushed back due to the pandemic.

I can I agree that it will be 2023. I don’t see Cedar points next coasters being raptors for a while though!

I just think a B and M flyer is pretty redundant when they've already got a wing coaster.

A modern wooden coaster is one obvious coaster Cedar Point is currently lacking. Whether that's a GCI or Gravity Group.
Fair enough, though they'd probably go for GCI after the success of Mystic Timbers. Who knows though, it's Cedar Fair and they might add brilliant theming to this new ride just like Orion has now (well decent for Cedar Fair standards)!

Don't you think they wouldn't want to take the shine off Mystic Timbers, at a park they own which is only a few hrs away?

If they build a better version of Mystic Timbers then it basically makes going to KI less appealing to the public.

I'd say if it's to replace the Mine Ride you'd hope they go for a ride that hits a similar market so more family thrill orientated than Mystic Timbers. They could balance it off with a high thrill flat ride in the area.
