Alton Towers Oktoberfest 2020

although so far all I’ve seen from Thorpe is that they are adding cherry sauce to ice cream for a Black Forest donut sundae.
They have put a press release out on Monday that includes info on ride rethemes, food, merchandise, new music and roaming entrainment.

For some reason, barely anyone covered it.

For the national press I assume tourist attraction holds special event isn't really newsworthy.

I just meant there hasn't been a huge amount of detail on Thorpes social media either, the only posts I've seen are the event is happening, book tickets and the donut special.

It does appear that the Alton Towers marketing team have been obliterated since the start of Covid-19. The quality of the stuff they've been putting out is what you might expect from somewhere more on the scale of Twinlakes.

I think that’s an insult to Twinlakes to be honest

It is curious how there has been very little in the way of detail provided by Towers, especially considering the event is only a couple of weeks away and this event has been announced since the start of the year.

I do wonder whether there is just a lack of detail being announced or there’s actually going to be a lack of much at the event itself.

More info on food, drink and entertainment has been added to the website. Good to see that the entertainment will continue after ride close.

I don’t know about you, but it sounds as though these might be external food & drink companies coming in and setting up stalls for the event.

Both this event at towers and thorpe is a complete joke. Why can’t we have some proper investments rather than this fake crap?

I’m sorry, but they aren’t even trying to make it authentic. I’m ashamed that they even think it’s acceptable to call this “oktoberfest”. I’ve been to the real oktoberfest and it’s nothing like this cheap knock off.

It specifically says there “we’ve got it all from BBQ to Mexican”. That’s hardly an authentic German experience? Churros are also Mexican/Spanish and not German. Hog roast is more of a British tradition than anything.

I doubt the beer or bratwursts are actually going to be German either. It all just seems incredibly fake and cheap to me. I’d rather they had come up with a unique concept and branding rather than mimicking a german tradition and failing to even get the concept right.

It’s a theme park. Everything is fake.

Well they aren’t doing a very good job at matching the theming and concept of the event to the real German tradition.

At least some parks (Europa/Epcot) do a good job of accurately depicting the parts of the world they are trying to.

Thank you. Epcot would not get away with trying to pull off something as tacky as this.

Thorpe park is advertising a “black forest donut sundae”. Which is also not a german treat, yet they are acting like it’s authentic.

My opinions of ima score have also lowered since they got involved in all of this. But money is money, and that’s why they’ve jumped on board.

Well, there will be entertainment, music, a wide(r) selection of food, snacks and drinks... basically the kind of thing there should be every day of the open season!

Maybe it's not massively authentically German, but I for one am actually looking forward to all the extras, visiting on 19th September!

Towers did make an investment this year, now due to open next year due to a pandemic out of their hands.

Do you really think they have the budget to magically turn the entire lawns into a full-scale event like that? Obviously it was never going to be close to the actual thing, but do you know what? They're bothering.

I bet you kicked off when Greggs announced the vegan sausage roll. I'm by no means a foodie, but heaven forbid there be variety!

They've externally sourced it and as far as I'm aware, were at one point in discussions with the same food company who partake in events at a German theme park.

But hey, why bother extending park hours and trying an event out when they could stick to the same, archaic formula of not doing events outside Scarefest and Fireworks and we'd be right back at square one?
