Efteling: General Discussion

Also having returned from a four-year break, where my assertive view of "I'm really not a fan of Efteling" is now more of an "I don't necessarily mind Efteling" opinion.

Max & Moritz have a couple of nice interactive elements in the (woeful) queue line whilst the station is wonderful. As Dan mentioned, the exterior layout has taken a massive toll on the greenery of the area that Bob used to benefit from. It needs either more theming, some rockwork tunnels, or for a decent turnaround on tree growth in order to complement the area better. Also, I couldn't help but feel short-changed from the first lap of either coaster (Moritz less so), due to the real lack of feeling like either was doing anything. When the pacing is ramped up in the second lap making both more enjoyable, the feeling of being short-changed is extended more at the end when you feel both laps should have had that pacing to begin with. I feel Efteling were on the right lines with these coasters, but still a considerable amount off the mark they should have been at.

Symbolica on the other hand is superb. A proper world-class dark ride with consistently stunning theming inside and out to boot. We managed all three tours over the course of the day with one I recall being slightly better than the rest. The only negative was not being able to see the pre-show in all its glory with the wretched Covid implementations.

Python's re-tracking has also made a noticeable difference in the way it rides. Whilst still a tad on the short side, it makes for the perfect multi-generation riding experience that the park has envisioned for all its guests.

Here's hoping for the next large investment to be the coaster that Baron should have been in terms of ride experience.

As you say you like indoor boat rides, what did you think to Fata Morgana?

Yes, I have ridden Fata Morgana many times and enjoy it very much. After the Paris POTC, it's probably up there with my favourites in Europe (although new EP Piraten in Batavia is closing in). They seem to have removed the lasers... :(

Efteling was great as always (I’m not gonna go in to the rides) however some of their corona measures are totally ugly and not fitting to the park at all.

every inch of the park is covered in red and white tape, which does actually work really well but is so poorly presented. You have a botched approach with some on the floor, some on queue line fences, some on walls, etc. Half of it peeling off or patched it. It’s something I would expect from Blackpool or Drayton and not Efteling.

You’ve then also got the worlds longest cattle pens and queue lines. Efteling aren’t known for great queue lines, but now they have doubled or even tripled these cattle pens, complete with plastic screens and roofs. They look so ugly and are not great places to queue in. Some of them are perfectly fine and are painted so don’t feel too out of place. Others are just one big mass of wood and plastic. Such as Joris or Max and Moritz, which must be one of the longest queue lines known to man.

it’s nice that they have added speakers and stuff to these extensions, but they all feel very temporary and cheap. Hopefully they won’t be used for too long, but it doesn’t look great when you are in a queue and can just see the backs of nice buildings or staff areas.

Jack Silkstone recently visited;

Interesting thing is Max broke down just after they left the station, rolled back and stopped. They were stuck for an hour then evacuated via a ladder. :tearsofjoy:
They got free bottled water but nothing else though. :confused:

Worth noting that it's only a temporary change running Friday 9 October to Sunday 15 November after that it will revert to the standard show. Though they have said all the shows including this new one, the Tiesto mix and other limited run shows remain in the system for special events and private hire.
