Alton Towers Oktoberfest 2020

Thorpe can change the music fairly easy due to their centralised music system. On some of the older rides like Nemesis it would be a big faff changing the audio.
Nah. From what I gather of recent updates to the park's audio systems, whilst it couldn't be described as 'centralised', it's far more slick than it was in the past, so music changes are easy. And even if there had been no updates to the music systems at all, all we're talking about really is changing the file on local SD cards, so a walk around the park with a laptop and SD card reader.

So what you are saying is if they changed the music now they wouldn’t lose the original audio and a major coaster on park would not then have to download a ripped off copy of the audio from a fan site to be able to play it on the ride again......

not that that ever happened!

I mean yes, they can absolutely, completely update the music without loosing the original if not done carelessly lol. Method = totally possible and easy. Execution... yeh point taken :p

Can't seem to think what ride this could've happened on... please do share!

A press release has been posted on the ECC Facebook page:

Alton Towers Resort set to dish up a taste of Germany with a quirky ‘twist’ at Oktoberfest family festival

Bratwurst in pretzel buns, luxury chocolates, lebkuchen biscuits and giant toasted marshmallows are just some of the culinary delights revealed to be on offer at the first ‘Oktoberfest’ taking place at Alton Towers Resort from next weekend.

Ahead of the brand-new family festival, set to be staged at the Resort throughout September, more than 150,000 traditional Bratwurst sausages, 3,000 gallons of ice cream, over a quarter of a million traditional Belgian chocolates and 200,000 giant marshmallows are set to arrive at the Resort. They’re just some of the German inspired treats that will be dished up for guests, along with lederhosen-clad dancers and cosy firepits to help transform the Theme Park into a Bavarian wonderland.

As well as the more traditional smoked Bratwurst, Currywurst in pretzel bread will also be served from a traditional Schwenkgrill. Giant toasted marshmallows, speciality coffees, flavoured hot chocolates and Gluhwein (mulled wine) are also amongst the tantalising treats on offer as guest enjoy festivities each day, from 3pm, September 11th to October 4th.

By teaming up with Spaten beer, the Theme Park will also offer this classic German Helles premium lager. Brewed in Munich and known for its light, crisp taste and golden colour, it offers a full rounded body of malty sweetness, balanced by delicate hop flavours and aromas. A small selection of traditional English beers will also be served.

And there’s much more than food on offer with a full line-up of themed live entertainment. In a video released today, Entertainment Manager Simon Allen explains how an outdoor area of the park will be transformed into a Bavarian-themed spectacular entertainment venue. This includes two stages for live performances from the acts including the foot-stomping German Jukebox and a host of other live musicians, as well as street performances by Bavarian dancers and an Alpine horn player. He also explains how the venue has been laid out to observe social distancing guidelines, meaning families and friends can focus on enjoying the food, festivities and fun.

Oktoberfest is the first event of its kind to be staged at the Resort as part of the 40th anniversary season of celebration. In addition to the live acts, delicious food and drinks, guests will have the chance to enjoy the park’s world-class rollercoasters and family attractions into the evening (8pm on weekends). Furthermore, guests will be able to enjoy Oktoberfest’s atmosphere and entertainment within the price of a theme park ticket. (Pre-booking tickets for the theme park will be essential.)

Simon Allen, Entertainment Manager at Alton Towers Resort, said: “Oktoberfest has grown a small folk festival in Munich to a hugely popular event that’s now celebrated around the world, including at some of our sister parks in Europe. It brings together a great mix of rollercoasters, live entertainment and fabulous food and drink, and we’re thrilled to be hosting the event for the first time at Alton Towers in our 40th birthday year. Plans are well under way, including plenty of social distancing measures, and there’ll be so much for guests to enjoy. We can’t wait for next Friday for the event to begin!”

Since re-opening on July 4th, Alton Towers Resort has implemented a wide range of measures to help ensure social distancing and good hygiene whilst guests enjoy a fun day out. The Resort remains committed to continuously monitoring and adapting its measures in line with the changing government guidance. Oktoberfest is an outdoor event and has been planned in strict accordance with existing COVID-19 measures, which will be adapted should that guidance change nearer the time. Capacity will remain at a level where social distancing can be maintained, including in entertainment spaces. A full list of the measures can be found https://www.altontowers.com/explore/events/oktoberfest/.

Oktoberfest will take place each day, from 3pm, September 11th to October 4th. More information and tickets can be found at altontowers.com.

The theme park opens every day at 10am as normal, with the Oktoberfest entertainment and food stalls opening from 3pm each day.

Oktoberfest is included in the price of a Theme Park ticket, but pre-booking is essential. For more information and to book tickets please visit www.altontowers.com/Oktoberfest

Thorpe appear to have been given quite a substantial budget for Oktoberfest, with decent staging and lighting. I suspect/hope we'll see additional construction at Towers this week for something similar.

I can’t remember if they kept it all but just before Thorpe did Island Beats (2015) they did invest in lighting and equipment, the stage even looks the one of the ones they had so great to see things being used to make the event better.

From what I gather, Thorpe's event is very much being led my Alton Towers. Good to see Thorpe using that stage for once! Last time I saw it in use was when ATR borrowed it for their 2018 Scarefest!

Construction under way at Towers.

According to the website there will be two stages with entertainment. The area will now open from 2pm each day (previously advertised as 3pm).

I'm very much looking forward to this but it's gonna be difficult to take advantage of the Erdinger having to drive home after. More tempted than ever to fork out for one of the extortionate resort hotels.

Yesterday they were just setting up the stage at the bottom of the lawns. With loads and loads of tables ready to be installed.

unsure where the second stage will go, unless it’s going to be towards the top end of the lawns near towers Street, or maybe on the courtyard which does have some new speakers, however you wouldn’t get many people in there with distancing in place.

It will be interesting to see how it compares to Thorpe, I heard not great reviews yesterday as most food outlets were closed, and they hadn’t got the thorpe branded glasses yet. Also other than the park ents, they only have entertainment on the stage during the weekends. Where as Alton Towers will have it daily.

I do like the change of audio at though across the park so will be interesting if towers have done anything similar. Even if it’s just pathways and areas like at Scarefest.

Do we think they'll use the change of audio for The Smiler that was posted on their socials earlier today?
