Fireworks 2020: CANCELLED

As many have said I think the leaving would be the worst part. Even if they dismissed row by row, like back in the old school assemblies;), people would probably ignore it. I know some years we've had people getting really aggy with us pushing past to try and leave. I think the fact that it is in the dark as well make it even more difficult to control the crowds.

I think they should postpone to next summer, I know typically the fireworks are November thing, but an early summer's day with a bit of heat in the air and fireworks sounds like a dream! Maybe I'm just fed up of freezing to death every November! :p
Alas, I do enjoy fireworks and especially loved last year's super quiet Friday but I think its just too risky.

Unless they have huge levels of staffing to manage crowds there's no way to ensure social distancing is followed. As a 3 day event it is not worth running. If the event could have been spread over the month with 6+ shows, that may have been a little more viable.

They should have explored a new event that could be spread throughout November, perhaps a light event (as an extension beyond the Garden Lights Walk). Longleat are offering something I think could have worked well at Towers, and that itself is a replacement for their usual Festival of Light event.

there was discussion that additional dates were being considered for fireworks this year. So other options probably have been considered.

Issue is they'd have to stay open until 9-10pm as it wouldn't be dark enough prior to then for fireworks! There is a reason why they are suited to November ;)

Could they have a 10-15 min light show over the lake instead and when you buy your tickets online you select a time slot to watch. That also would mean no attractions would have to close to 9pm.

That wouldn't be fireworks though, would it.
Can't see this happening in the current situation.
They will take bookings to generate cash flow, and offer tickets for next year probably...
Followed by refunds when requested.

Just like many things merlin has done since they reopened you never know what they will do next. They have already taken a big risk with scarefest with a fortnight lockdown being discussed could jeopardise most plans. It’s just not feasible or financially viable in my opinion for this year, they will keep pushing it until the last minute when they will have no choice but to postpone.

It’s not Merlin making a lot of decisions it’s the park. Look at how well Alton Towers has run compared to Thorpe Park.

Fireworks officially cancelled.

Hardly surprising news given the circumstances.

TBH, I would not have visited on a Fireworks day. There are reports aplenty on here & TripAdvisor of social distancing being fairly non-existent at Towers. (Yes, there are lines on the ground / announcements etc, but they are ignored by the chavs).

Fireworks would just be twice as bad.

Can't really blame them with how Covid cases are going wild again. I'm booked for Scarefest near the end of October and I'm personally feeling less confident that even that will still be running then, feels like we'll all be under some sort of lockdown situation by that point.

Would obviously love to be proven wrong! :)

I'm not surprised, really - it would've been nigh-on impossible to have the fireworks in any form under current rules with social distancing in place. I don't doubt they tried to come up with different ways of having it in some form, but none of them were feasible. Just having night rides would be something, and it'd help to make up for the lack of fireworks. I was gutted to miss out last year owing to being in Vienna, though it did coincide with my birthday, and we had dinner at the Rollercoaster Restaurant there, so it wasn't all bad. :p It's unfortunate, but there's not a lot that can be done. I hope they can come back bigger and better next year.

Whilst they may have taken the decision it was likely because the local council and insurance are reluctant to grant permission to the event. I'm sure if both were onboard and happy with the RAMS from Towers, it still would have gone ahead in some form. We're probably at the point of committing financially to certain plans as well.

It's a shame that it's another thing that bites the dust because of 2020. I hope if we're on top of the virus this time next year that 2021 will be one big party year for the park and 2021 will be the most epic fireworks yet! *crosses fingers*

My worry now is people will rebook on Scarefest dates. I'm planning to book by Thursday, and have got to go in half term week, so hopefully there'll still be space/good maze times.
