Actually does a lot of this boil down to British drinking culture? Of getting together with the "lads", getting hammered and not caring what happens?

To be honest I think that the “rule breaking” though a factor has been more of a handy excuse for the failures of the government.

The fact is once you allowed people to go back to work and socialise again the virus was going to start spreading. What you needed was adequate testing, and good track and tracing, this is something the government promised and failed to deliver on. Without that restrictions like the rule of 6 help depress the spread (the rate of increase is nowhere near what it was in March/ April even now) but the rate will increase regardless.

Then you look at Sweden, it didn’t lock down and it had a rocky start but now their infection rate is lower than most. They also haven’t destroyed their economy and society. We had no choice as we had to protect an under funded health system but it’s food for thought.

The fact is we are not getting rid of this virus, so what’s the next plan? Even if a vaccine becomes available take up will never be 100% because of all the bonkers on social media. We need an alternative as I don’t think many people are going to tolerate these restrictions for more than another winter. Hell I work in the NHS and most of us are thoroughly fed up with them and we have been at the heart of the worst of the mess. Humans can only tolerate restrictions to their freedoms for so long.

I think moving up from Level 3 to Level 4 is going to significantly tighten restrictions in the coming days.

Personally I can't see a lot of people abiding by new restrictions because many are fed up enough already. We had a lengthy lockdown which bought the Government time to get things under control, and were promised a 'world beating' app, among other things. This hasn't happened and confidence in them is dropping quickly. They are responsible for the growing mess they have created.

I knew these two reminded me of someone

I guess hands are tied when it comes to another lockdown. It’s not so much will people abide by it it’s more the case of we have no choice but to just suck it up and deal with it. If everywhere is shut again apart from the usual stuff like before then what else is there to do.

I've kept quiet in all this but...I've had it. If this is another lockdown, even for shorter time, then what is the point then of going on? I'm really on the edge of my tether and with social media being batsh*t insane and no matter where you look or how you avoid it...I really can't take more of this. Help.

For your own sanity, concentrate on the things you can control:
  • Where you go and who you meet
  • Socially distance and wear a mask where required
  • Wash your hands regularly, especially when you get home
  • Play by the rules
  • Avoid anything that looks risky or makes you uncomfortable.
But don't:
  • Be paranoid
  • Stress over other people's non-compliance
  • Become obsessed with checking the news or social media every 5 minutes
If social media is causing you anxiety then I recommend taking a break from it, or at least only look at things unrelated to Coronavirus.

That makes far more sense than anything Boris has ever said!

Another full lockdown would likely both directly and indirectly kill more people than the virus.

I expect some restrictions returning but I would be surprised if we end up fully locking down again. My guess will be no mixing of households in homes, table service only in pubs and a curfew on alcohol selling venues of 10pm. Also possible shielding will kick in again for those who need to and visiting care homes/ hospitals further limited.

As was suspected at the beginning, the young are not overly impacted by the disease. It’s also likely that humans don’t get full immunity to the virus, but subsequent exposures result in milder illness (there are at least 4 other coronavirus’s circulation in the population so there is precedence for this). A lot of scientists are suggesting that they need to let this burn through the under 50’s with good hygiene and mask wearing to keep viral loads low.

I reckon we will see the tourism industry halted with pubs being closed for x amount of weeks and non essential shops closed. I have no idea what they want planned but obviously we will know more by the end of tomorrow I guess. But with this government you never know what to expect.

It's not scare mongering, we have been listening to our GP and hospital specialists. Jess and I have been shielding for over 6months. We have been following a strict regimen with sanitising anything that comes into our home. This virus is highly contagious, can be deadly or cause further complications, especially to the elderly or those with underlying heath conditions.

If the hospitals get filled up with covid patients, it then takes beds and staff away from other departments where people will not get get treated for other condition causing deaths in people unable to get treatment for non covid related conditions.

I’ve just been thinking about the pub situation and it seems there’s no easy solution, not every pub will be able to do table service. The pubs by me are small and run by 2 members of staff to serve 2 rooms they don’t have the funds to employ extra staff. So if it turns to table service then you’ll find a many pubs will be forced to close leading to more people cramming into one that is open. The closing at 10 is absolutely crazy when I was at the pub last week it was more busier then usual as people had come out earlier then they normally would. Now the last thing i want is pubs to close but if they want to take it seriously for lockdown v2 then that’s the logically way forward unfortunately.

*only just seen the new lockdown rules, what an absolute joke it really it is. I can say im not suprised tho, surely it’s a no brainier situation but with this government I never know what to think anymore. Closing at 10pm just makes it more dangerous as people will just go out earlier this won’t solve anything.

Doing all I can, mainly at avoiding the news coverage and trying to be with friends. Sadly though I find myself contradicting myself in which while I want to be with people, talks always end up being about the threat of new rules put in place in which I can't get away from so it just seems hopeless to try and get away from it. The fact things are changing all the time is not helping at all.

If anyone wants clear & unambiguous advice on the pandemic, I can recommend looking at the National Autistic Society's website. It's been so incredibly useful for me, and I've tended to go there more than the government's own website.

Thanks for that, I'll look more into it and hopefully find some advice to take from it. However what I really despise is not matter what side of the political spectrum your on, people have been trying to use this damn virus for their own political means which it doesn't matter if its in the media or sadly among people on here even in which I will not name names, I just hate trying to use like that to the point when I question if they not how much their own words could be harmful.

Yes this does sound like an attack against free speech which I don't wish it to be, but bringing in politics into anything really is to me the devil's venom. Must everything have to do with politics these days? E.G Virus, vacation pop culture etc.

I'm rambling but I'm trying all I can to take my mind of things, even my alternative history work is the one thing I'm trying to keep me on my toes and feel free if you want to see it, I'll PM you the link, and I like to show my work. But being autistic in this is really hard and I have been putting on a brave face for my girlfriend but at this rate I fear I'm going to crack if I don't get any good news about something, even if I am following all the basic rules needed. :(
