[2024] Nemesis Reborn: Construction and Speculation

For me, neither ride is anywhere even close to my UK favourite; I rate rides based on pure fun factor, enjoyment and rerideability as opposed to out and out intensity,
I agree with you on this one, hence why I love the smiler and wicker man so much as they're rerideable. Nemesis is great but too intense to reride

Smiler and Nemesis switch round for my best coaster at Towers. But Smiler is such an effort with the hideous queue line, that I tend to flutter back to Nemesis most of the time as it's consistently well operated and nowhere near a misery to wait for. Smiler is a hovel.

Nemesis is without question one of the UK's most acclaimed coasters internationally.

One of my fondest memories of Nemesis was riding it over and over on a rainy September day 20 years ago when it was walk on (not much has changed there).

I don’t think my body could take that these days

Nemesis, Wicker Man and The Smiler are 3 very different and all really fun coasters. Nemesis by design. The Smiler by fluke, or stroke of genius by the layout designer, given the totally obnoxious brief (to beat the world record but we only have this tiny space). Wicker Man because it's a decent wooden coaster, and wooden coasters are great!

Oblivion and Air are interesting prototypes but Oblivion is a one-trick ride, a good one trick though. And Air is a well engineered experiment but the actual flying sensation wasn't that mind blowing in the end, which nobody could have predicted until they'd built it. I wonder if FLY at Phantasialand will finally get flying coasters right.

Thirteen adds nothing to the park, Rita is fun as a launched coaster but doesn't really do anything after the launch.

Ah, apologies! I was merely confused because there was a comma at the end of the sentence, and to me, that sentence kind of seemed like it had something else coming at the end of it. But I see that bit has gone now, so I do apologise profusely!

I wasn’t intending for that to be an English lesson, I was merely intrigued!

I don’t know why, but I’ve found it to be a bit less smooth this year and last year than in previous years. I always found it very smooth, but from 2019 onwards, there have been 1 or 2 notable headbanging moments in the track that have given me slightly sore ears.

I wouldn’t call Nemesis an unbearably rough coaster by any means, as the rest of the track is still very smooth, but it’s certainly quite fierce compared to some other B&Ms, and I’ve only noticed this in the last year or so. To be honest, it’s probably one of the rougher B&Ms I’ve done.

Has Nemesis always been this way and I just haven’t previously noticed as much, or is this a recent development?
I've always banged my head on Nemesis, so have to ride with my head forced forward - still love the ride though.

I've actually never banged my head on The Smiler, as the restraints are well below ny head, perhaps because i'm tall.

The restraints on Nemesis are big, bulky and right next to my ears.

Still a bit gutted i won't be able to ride it again this year though.

Come on now how can Nemesis be the best in the uk, the smiler is in the same damn park
I just prefer Nemesis because of how it rides, and the Smilers track and theming looks a bit worn and tired already which is concerning hence why I don't rank it as high because I look at everything for a good coaster and Nemesis fits the bill!

It just appeals to me more than the smiler too, Has more flow to its layout and feels like your on more of a journey, whereas I feel the smiler becomes repetitive to me, Nemesis may be shorter but it’s very re-rideable, full of intensity but balanced perfectly with inversion’s. but as mentioned above, it’s all down to personal preference. I go on park a lot with a friend who has similar opinions as @Ethan , so we have to come to a consensus on trying to ride both equally :tearsofjoy:

Just came across this old TV programme!

I found it very interesting. H&S was different back then, not a safety harness in sight, it was a good job that they were wearing those yellow hats on the lift hill, I was a tad worried for the moment when the guy talking learnt over to touch the track

I think by the time a boy/girl gets to the 1.4m tall height there more interested in boys/girls and seeing there friends nowadays then going to a theme park with there parents. Looking at the queue times when I was visiting 2 weeks ago 13 and Wickerman had the longest queue all day. The Smiler was the next Biggest but no where near as much as the other too. On paper most people have ridden Nemesis, Oblivion and Air(refuse to call it Galactica without the VR) so the queues r lower that doesn’t mean there bad coasters.
Nemesis is still the number 1 coaster for me and me and my daughter will be riding it for it’s 30th Birthday in 4 years time.

Both my son and daughter reached 1.4 aged 8 and we're measuring themselves a lot looking forward to riding it and the other 1.4 coasters!!

My daughter is 13 now and theme parks are one of the few places she still acts as our little girl and is happy to be with us in public!

Queues are lower in the valley for 2 reasons.

1) It’s at the back of the park so crowds have diffused more as guests migrate through the park. The only time this will change is if they put a new SW in that area which will draw people quickly in that direction.

2) In general both coasters in valley have better throughputs than their more modern counterparts (in some cases almost double).

Earlier in this thread, people were discussing the possibility of retracking Nemesis at some point in the future. The possibility was dismissed at the time due to the fact that Merlin wouldn’t be able to justify spending the money.

However, we are now seeing Shaman at Gardaland get a like-for-like retrack and smoothing out over the 2020/21 off-season in a similar manner to what happened with Python at Efteling. So it would appear that Merlin are not as averse to retracking rides in this manner as some originally thought.

So my question is; do we think something similar could happen to Nemesis in the years to come?

Hopefully but hopefully not as it might loose the iconic roar and vest restraint trains might be put on Nemesis. It would be saved but it wouldn't be the same tbh! However, this makes it more possible now that Shaman is being retracked!
