Looks like we are in tier 2, which don't affect us as we've are shielding

Sorry to be a bit pessimistic but i really do think this virus has brought out the worst in many people. Either that or it has highlighted the sheer amount of selfish/arrogant/un-sympathetic individuals we already had in the country. I include the doorstep sellers, who are trying to get you to switch [Insert utility here]. I have had three of them knock on my door. One during the first lockdown and two during this lockdown. None of them wore masks, all of them stood directly on my doorstep and wouldn't budge until i had to tell them to literally eff off (I was politely declining up until that point and they were not having it). I am aware that this is their job, but they are literally the scum of the earth, allowing this to continue when there was a lockdown. It's bad enough when there isn't a lockdown. Something needs to be done about doorstep sellers. This is my own private space, if i want to change Broadband, i will do it in my own time.

You have the right to tell people to leave your property, if they fail to leave, then they are breaking the law by trespassing. Just shut the door and if they don't leave, then call the police

Honestly, they tactics some of them are using to get you to switch are borderline harassment. Before Covid happened. Shell (Company) had a gazebo set up in town, with a group of lads trying to stop people and get them to switch to Shell Energy. I walked past and said, 'nah thankyou'. The next minute, he had hold of my arm trying to pull me back to talk. I saw my butt big time. Who is training these people or advising them to use agressive tactics. You don't generally get this with people trying to get you to sign up for Charities, they seem relatively pleasant but when it comes to broadband/energy/cavity wall insulation, they are really in your face.

My mate john is trained to fall safety. So he did when another company representative took his arm and tried to stop him.
Then started giving him abuse about pulling him over.

That is bordering on the line of assault??? You could report them to trading standards, if you can film any incidents like this, take it to the police.

Some good advice with cold callers on the Martin Lewis site, print off a door label which can be found half way down (not literally, just a figure of speech before I get anyone on here pointing this out ) this link, you will need to click on each subject. Or you could design and print off your own, I laminated mine.

Well today’s announcement should of been expected but is completely ridiculous.
How can the whole of Staffordshire be lumped together? We have low rates in our area and always have had but now in tear 3, ridiculous.
How can London all be tier 2 but have some of the highest rates in the country? ridiculous.
I’m afraid the only thing you can do with incompetence like this is ignore it and carry on as normal.

Very public spirited of you there Mr T.
Hope the people next door grass you up on a daily basis.

Sorry this is a bit off topic, but did anyone watch the BBC 2 documentary about the Spanish Flu (1918) last night? Wow, the second wave of that thing makes Covid-19 look like a blood cold. It was quite grim tbh. It said that the first wave of the virus wasn't particularily fatal and only severely affected very young children, older people and people with pre-existing condition, just like seasonal flu. However, it mutated half way through, just as it was disappearing to a much more fatal strain, that had what was called a 'W' curve. It severely affected the usually people, however it started killing (consistently) people in the 25 to 35 bracket. They couldn't work it out at the time but they now know that it was because the virus triggered a very strong 'Cytokine Explosion' effect and people in the young/healthy bracket were dying within 24 hours of developing symptoms. They reckon it killed up to 100 million people in total. Sorry for the grim post, thought it was fasinating.

Yeah Spanish Flu was bad, it’s also the reason most people where looking at emerging flu strains for the next big pandemic and not so much the other respiratory virus’s.

Unlikely as they are all doing the same...

I don’t have a problem with tier system as such as long as it’s perceived to be fair, by putting all of London in Tier 2 when some of the highest case rates are here and then basically everything north of Watford Gap in Tier 3 it comes across as a bad joke and as they say in football you then loose the dressing room.

I do feel for pub owners at the moment. Who decides what quantifies as 'substantial' when it's subjective? It must be exhausting, and I can only see it getting worse. I expect they'll receive abuse from customers when they can't pour them a pint because of this ridiculous rule.

The simplist way would be for them to just operate as a restaurant. Many pubs have been throughout this year anyway. Waited service, order food and drinks together or you don't get a table. Substantial meal would be ordering a main course at least. IE not just a bowl of chips and a pint.

Although it is subjective, restaurant operators should know how to work within the rules. People aged 16 and 17 are able to have one alcoholic drink along with a substantial meal, so it is not a new concept to those running restaurants.

I think most places trying to find a way round the rules are those venues that have never really served food, or customers who want to drink not go to a restaurant and are trying to find a way round it.

Places that do normally serve food will, as you say, know what they should be doing.
