Radio Times Appreciation Thread

I do try and keep up with technology, but there are a few things where the modern equivalent doesn't come close to what it has tried to replaced. It amazes me how poor EPGs are, ones built into TVs/Set Top Boxes specifically, but even the online ones are pretty painful to navigate too.

Having become frustrated with the EPG trying to see what's on at Christmas (very little, as it goes), I plumped for a Radio Times. A fiver felt a little steep but it's an absolute joy.

The pre Christmas joy of getting the double issues of Radio and TV Times when I was a kid, had to buy both, as ITV wasn't covered by Radio Times back then.
We all got different coloured pencils to decide what was going to be watched over the three channels.
And a fiver seems cheap compared to BPB baubles, and small 70's leaflets...

Only time of the the year I buy a TV guide magazine. Radio Times is the best, unfortunately Mrs Dippy bought a cheapo one yet again. Not the same.

I use Radio Times on line and it don't cost me a penny, the only downside, you have to disable the add blocker for this site. There are other online TV guides available, but apart from those adds, I find this one user friendly

If we do want a paper TV guide, then we go for something cheap and cheerful like TV Choice or What's On TV, there is no need to pay a fortune for a TV guide

...It's not Christmas yet!
My fave Christmas decade must be the seventies...the early part.
Hot Wheels!
The brand new craze for little boys, back when I didn't know what a craze was.
Oh my.
Big starter box as my main present, extra cars off all the aunts and uncles as part of my other presents...all wrapped up in pound notes.
Then I was allowed to blow all my Christmas cash on extra track and bits.
Needless to say I was building coasters out of it all before the new year, starting with the Rollercoaster (Streak).

We only buy the tv mag at Christmas as it’s pointless the rest of the year as I work shifts. I notice that the radio times was £5 I bet it’s full of adverts. We buy the what’s on TV guide as it’s all we need. I think the BBC and mainly the channels with adverts need to rethink there Christmas film choices as many are available on a streaming platforms.

Ah yeah, that's a good memory getting the TV Times at Christmas. I wouldn't bother now because with Netflix etc I don't really need it anymore. It was always the Christmas films I looked forward to but it's been a long time since I've had to wait for a film to come on TV. Still, the premiere of Jurassic Park one Christmas day is a fond, albeit fuzzy, memory.
