Most of you by now will know that I like trains, to the point where I got close to completing the Tube Challenge in 2017, successfully did it in 2018, and had a very good go at the Paris Métro Challenge in 2019. All of these were done with the aim of raising money for charity, and were all worthwhile, if somewhat exhausting! New York's extensive Subway network was under consideration for 2020, but thanks to coronavirus, this has been put on the backburner for now. As such, something different to raise money has been sought, and a decision has been made. Myself, @Mike, @MattyH and @Poisson are being let loose on the King's Cross signal box on Saturday January 30th.
Being serious, nobody with half a brain cell would ever let us anywhere near the controls of the real thing, so we're instead using some simulation software called SimSig. It's free to download, with a number of different simulations available for free and others to purchase. We've been working through King's Cross over the past couple of weeks as something of a dry run, and it's been...eventful, to say the least. If you've seen the #gaming channel on the TS Discord, you may have a bit of an idea as to how badly it's gone.
The JustGiving page can be found here, with more info available. Twitch streaming of the visuals is probable, with further details on that to be confirmed closer to the time. We may chip in on voice from time to time, depending on how things are going, mainly because we could get a bit sweary. It's gonna be a long day, but we're all looking forward to it. I think.
All donations to the Samaritans will be gratefully received. We've chosen the Samaritans as we've raised money for them before, and we feel that it's incredibly important to help organisations that work with mental health, especially during this pandemic.
