Walibi Belgium: General Discussion

That outerbanked hill

The airtime hill looks good fun and I’m guessing will carry a bit more speed once it’s properly bedded in.

Love the totally pointless bank before it hits the brakes as well! Maybe they too had a Smiler-type issue where the track didn’t fit, so bent it into place with some ratchet straps...

Can’t wait to try it out! With this and the Spinning Coaster at Plopsaland, it makes Belgium a must visit for any coaster enthusiast

This coaster actually looks to have some substance to it, unlike Hyperion.
Out of interest, what is it that you personally think Hyperion lacks? From watching POVs of Hyperion, it looks to have quite a bit of airtime and some fun twists and turns, with lots of g-force, so it surprises me to hear that the ride is apparently lacking in this regard.

I’m also hoping that this (Kondaa) might be a bit smoother than Hyperion apparently is, as well.

Kondaa is looking phenomenal, however; I really hope I can get out there and ride it some day!

With Ride to Happiness opening at Plopsaland this year too; I think 2021 in Belgium could quite possibly be what 1994 was to the UK, as they’ve got two genuinely amazing-looking rides opening this year, which I think (dare I say it) could well end up being the two most highly-received coasters in Belgium.

Sorry for double posting, but here is some even faster testing footage for you to digest:

This is looking absolutely delectable; some of those elements just look wicked! There doesn’t look to be a single wasted inch of track anywhere!

You've already answered it in bold. ;)

Not to mention the splashdown needlessly soaks back row riders more so than any of the water rides. The only decent part to Hyperion is the first drop, first hill, and the dive loop. After that, it becomes rather dull. Quite bizarre to think what was achieved with Skyrush all those years ago, yet Hyperion, which should have been a spiritual successor, falls disappointingly short.

I find it crazy how much hate Hyperion gets, I preferred it to Zadra. Maybe I overhyped Zadra and underestimated Hyperion but it’s definitely more my sort of coaster, the speed of the thing is fantastic and it still has some good airtime in places, the only moment I found slightly dull was the floater hill before the overbank. But that’s what makes riding coasters so fun, opinions differ for everyone.

As much as Kondaa looks absolutely sublime, I wanted to ask you all about a different ride at Walibi Belgium; Loup-Garou. I ask you about Loup-Garou because CoasterStats posted a video showing Loup-Garou’s g-forces tonight, measured using an accelerometer:

Now I always thought that Vekoma woodies had a reputation for not being overly forceful, but the video would beg to differ; the ride apparently peaks at over 4G for positive forces (pretty forceful for a woodie!) and just shy of -1.3G for negative forces (isn’t this about equivalent to Kondaa?), which is really quite forceful!

So I was going to ask anyone on here who’s been to Walibi Belgium; does Loup-Garou feel less intense than this video implies, or are the Vekoma woodies more intense than I’d thought?

Also, the shaking of the zero car in this video would suggest quite a rough ride; is Loup-Garou rough, or is that just the camera?

I haven't ridden it for a long while but as far as I recall it wasn't overly forceful. It does have a bit of air. It's a shame more parks didn't buy these, all three were/are fun rides.

Also, I don't believe it has a zero car, they are rigid three bench cars, as I recall.

Zero car might have been the wrong word, but I was referring to the bit with bars at the front of the train, visible in the thumbnail of that video. That certainly looked to do a lot of shaking!

I enjoyed it and found it personally to do a bit more than Robin Hood (that was still a great coaster too though), but like Rick I wouldn’t call it overly forceful.

Certainly didn’t feel any more intense than say Wodan or Troy.

Belgium & the Netherlands are currently suffering the aftermath of some pretty serious flooding. As such, Walibi Belgium and many of the other Belgian parks are closed until further notice.

There have been some rather shocking images posted of the damage of Walibi Belgium; the park is currently underwater:

This looks quite bad… hopefully everyone in Belgium and Holland comes out OK, and Walibi and the other parks reopen eventually. I must admit, I’m getting Six Flags New Orleans VIBES from those images, although I don’t think this is quite as severe as Hurricane Katrina was from what I can gather.
