Ads popping up on TST?

Hey guys,

Was just wondering if anybody else has been getting random pop ups that replace the website with scam offers on them while browsing the forums, for example "You have been randomly selected to take a survey that could win you an iPad!"

I have already sent a PM to Joel but thought that it might be useful to ask if anyone has experienced this. And if any of the team want the URL it is: www.testables.net

I get them in Safari but using Firefox with an AdBlocker works like a charm. Nothing to get too fussed about if you know your stuff. It should be fine if you are on Chrome too.

Most of the team are away at the moment so it might not be looked at for most of today.

In the meantime I'd recommend that any popups are ignored and not clicked on as we do not have popup adverts on TowersStreet. I'm sure Joel or one of the technical members of the team will look into it as soon as they can.

If anyone else has been receiving these popups could you post below please. Also for those who have received popups we suggest you check your device(s) for malware. The team will be investigating the matter in due course. :)

I've only ever got pop up ads on my iPhone , and they are very rare.

I've never got one on my computer or laptop and I use safari on both of them. :)

Considering that one of my computers uses AVG and the other uses Kaspersky, that both have weekly scans, I think it may be an external problem.

Just had one pop up now. I clicked on the forum link from the homepage, and the forum index was shown very briefly before the screen went white and brought up the popup and survey, iPad and whatnot rubbish.

Like with Cheese, the forum index. I got one of those shoot 5 ducks to win something that were outdated back in 2007.
 
Ok, so I've spent furious minutes refreshing trying to get one of these damn adverts to show up... and I did it!

Turns out they only seem to show up if you use IE... can those affected confirm if they use IE?

Also - it is actually rogue code being served by Google AdSense! I googled the URL that is being advertised (testables.net/d/juic.... part left out so people don't click it) and there have been quite a few reports of people suffering from it.

I've reported it to Google anyway now, but still handy to know if those affected are running IE?
 
We are also getting them over on the forum I help administer - I agree, it would appear to be rogue Adsense code. :(

On the plus side, it might make people get a better browser ;)
 
Thanks all. Believe it or not, it has been an incredible hassle to try and get through to Google about this issue - it's still cropping up all over in discussion forums and nobody is having any luck it seems.

I have tried blocking the URL in AdSense to see if it helps, but continue to let me know here if you still get the darn things show up so I can continue to hound Google for serving up tripe!

Yes, I can (finally) confirm that I was using IE at school. Like a rebel.
