Looks like the delay is down to them having to keep the system switched off to rectify the load of bookings that were made through the test link last night . Some clever people thought they could get a leg up on everyone else by using a hidden link to bypass the security wall on the system. and bragged about bookings - now their bookings are being deleted manually *and* everyone else has to wait .

Serves them right (the people who booked)

Deal has been arranged with Mellors group for Alton towers to hire out 4 rides for the season:

-Waltzer (Collins)
-Twister (Burrows)
-Jumper Jumper (Stokes smashing jump)
-Super trooper (Irvin)

So no dodgems by the looks of it.

Due to attend for a “proportion” of the season, so I guess potentially dependent on how the circumstances change over the rest of the course of the season..?

Cannot believe they are getting a Smashing Jump! :D
Rode one for the first time last year and really enjoyed it. :)

Apparently those rides will operate between 10am and 4pm.

Where did you get that from?
PBE's Twitter post.

Me riding a Smashing Jump (my first) last year;

Not sure where it'll be going as they are pretty big.

To be fair to some, Towers did make the link public yesterday, and was still public until quite late last night when I last looked.

Either way, impressive ooopsie by Merlin and opportunism by seemingly quite a few people.

It'd be very helpful (and polite!) if people could either quote where they have got information from or clearly state if it's rumour/speculation. It'll make the topic far easier to read for those that are catching up, and it's only right that sites and groups who have put effort into publishing said information are credited :).

Boring adminy stuff out the way, I think the "family thrill" side of things is the best way to go. The thrill side of things is generally well represented with the lineup that's able to open in the current restrictions come April 12th. These rides are to both increase overall capacity, and to cover the loss of indoor attractions which I'm assuming Towers initially believed could've been for a far longer period. Thrill rides are also unlikely to be able to stay for a longer period, with some festivals now being given the go ahead and of course fairs themselves being able to operate.

Yes, it's a cheap "fix" but I'm willing to give Towers a pass for it this year. It's clear there's not a whole lot of money available to do much, but it's good that there's been consideration given to guest satisfaction to enable people to get more rides done during their visit. I'm sure there'll be a lot of work going on behind the scenes to assess how popular such additional rides are, and what impact it has on those satisfaction scores on top of hopefully some more successful events. If they can use that information to build a business case for more permanent additions in the future then we should treat this as a nice potential stepping stone to better things in future.

As sad as it is that it has come to this, at least this is the closest we've got in the last 5 years to some sort of acknowledgement from towers that there's something very, very wrong with the park's lineup and that it needs to be fixed.

I'm looking at this with the view that they'll be 4 extra attractions to ride at Towers this year (with far more for my kids to go on to boot!) and I'm actually looking forward to it.

Although these rides will likely look terrible and cheapen the look of the park, the choice is these or empty flat paved areas and patches of grass between coasters where rides used to be.

I'm just happy with an open park this year, and if quick fixes like this are needed for one season (**and one season only**) then I'm generally fine with it. These are extraordinary times and they call for some difficult choices that would not usually be considered the norm. At the end of the day, it looks no cheaper than the hang bars that were there last season after all!

We've already seen the acceptance that the event lineup is lacking with the changes made last year, so hopefully this also marks the change to the park accepting that they really need to look to beef up that supporting ride lineup in the near future.

Could these just be until the indoor attractions open on May 17?
I wouldn't have thought so given the effort it requires, but I certainly hope not.

What I'm getting is that rumours are conflicting eachother over the actual length of stay and perhaps we should wait for official information?

Also any MAP holders who bypassed the security using the test link and delayed everybody elses bookings should have their MAPs taken awy from them.

Completely agree, it's not fair on everyone else and bypassing security stuff is a serious thing. Shame it's free now, otherwise they'd have lost money. :p

Does anyone know if the 2021 map has been released yet? If not, could we see the 4 flats added to it?
