@shakey SR71 but same song!

Has prompted some discussion as to when the Eli wheels lasted until. A lot of books mention 1983 but the above would suggest that they at least co-existed with Space Invader.
 
Out of interest; has Ice Blast ever had any modifications done to it that might make it differ from other S&S shot towers?

I was only wondering because even though I’ve only done 2 S&S shot towers, I noticed that Ice Blast seemed significantly less forceful than the other S&S shot tower I’ve done (Dr Doom’s FearFall at IOA) when I rode it in 2018. I’ll admit, I was surprised to see such a difference between two very similar rides.

Does Ice Blast feel different to other S&S shot towers, or am I just remembering Dr Doom as being more forceful than it actually is?
 
They are all a bit different and quite inconsistent too. I don't recall Dr Doom being particularly forceful but only ridden it once. The double shots feel like they have the most 'bite' to me. Cliff Hanger was pretty intense too when it opened.

The only 'official' amendment to the ride is the seating arrangement, it opened with 3 x 3 x 3 x 3, but this was subsequently modified to 2 x 4 x 2 x 4.
 
It definitely significantly weakened after swapping the seating arrangement with the twin Double Shot in Southport. It was really intense when it opened. Incidentally, the most intense Space Shot that I've ever ridden is undoubtedly, the one atop the Stratosphere in Las Vegas, which was one of the first.

Well the website says

'This activity may not be suitable for everyone. The walk is a physically demanding activity including steep climbs, drops, heights and the surface can be uneven, dirty and slippery.'

So I'd hope you'd at least get to the turnaround section otherwise there's not much to look at except the back of the pizza kitchen and the railway line.
 
Blackpool PB know exactly how to get the dollar out of their enthusiast fans.

Not for me, but after being initially appalled at the sheer costs of some of the spare parts they were selling, the park need the money so makes sense to exploit their fans if they're willing to fork out such figures.
 
If people are willing to pay for it, I'd argue it is no more exploiting in nature than anything else. I also don't think they're making a great deal with a capacity of four people per session.
 
At the end of the day it's another revenue stream (something akin to paying to work at a zoo) for the park.

I'd imagine the majority of walk the big one tickets for this year were rolled over from 2020, same with season passes (either completely or sold at a discounted rate). So this is a new revenue stream they can run until the bookings dry up, then change the event to a different coaster/ride.
 
I wouldn’t be interested in walk the woodie, but I do think he but one lift hill would be good and unique. It would offer some fantastic views across Blackpool from the top.

I don't. The park need the cash. The park have a hardcore enthusiast crowd, more so than other parks I would say in the UK. They're clearly willing to splash cash on these sorts of things and the park are capitalising.

Fine. That's up to them.

I used to enjoy these things for free back in the early days, I guess everything becomes monetised and has its price now.

Was it ever really for free? I thought this sort of thing happened as part of RCCGB, ECC or Club235 events, so although the park might have offered them to clubs "for free" it was part of an overall trip or event?
