Re: Major New Accommodation in 2014 - Themed Lodges

They will all look awesome if they look the same as the plans! Would anyone mind showing me where abouts the hotels would be according to the plans, I can't visualize which way around etc they are next to the hotel. ;D

Re: Major New Accommodation in 2014 - Themed Lodges

^ I would like a really up beat bar/nightclub on Resort. Maby sort of themed like Hard Rock Cafe, have peices of history of the park and stuff based around inside scenery and so on. But yeah the Entertainment on Resort needs to be boosted now.

Maby they should look into:
- Permanent rope/obstical course as they seem to be getting ever popular now.
- Laser quest?
- Proper Caret suite/area
- Permanent ice skating rink

The list goes on on what the resort could offer for evening entertainment, heck they could even buy some dodgems and have them by the hotel again for the quirkiness exclusive to hotel guests!

Actually ignore that, looking at one of the planning documents (Flooding), it isn't being built adjacent to the Alton Towers Hotel, but on car parks O AND P!

Entertainment is a must, and I'm surprised they haven't planned for any. The hotels get very busy during peak periods as it is, so adding more guests to this = no comprende.

Laser Quest would be awesome, does anyone know anyone n this field that cold work with Towers? (;-))
In all seriousness, some form of entertainment and recreational activity is needed for a Development of this size!

Re: Major New Accommodation in 2014 - Themed Lodges

Well the location is great for future proofing that side of the resort. They've left the site at the side of the Alton Towers Hotel free for either expansion of the existing or a completely new hotel, making the overflow car park opposite the ATH the perfect spot for some kind of entertainment complex in the centre of all three accommodation sites.

With this in mind, I'd expect the long rumoured entertainment complex to arrive with phase two of this in 2015-16

I think these look magical, and wonderful.

It will open up a new area of the resort, too!

:D

Re: Major New Accommodation in 2014 - Themed Lodges

Again, i wish they would concentrate on fixing the park first before investing money into something else they will leave to decay and fall apart.

Im sorry but this is a huge investment, coupled with SW7. I have been very impressed with the level of investment since SW6, and think that the park are learning from earlier mistakes.

I think in an ideal world they would spend millions maintaining the park and themeing but its just not practical. There is not a bottomless put of money. Hopefully investments like this will bring more money into the park, meaning better rides, etc

Ents-wise, this summer they were trialling some new resort entertainment ideas, utilising the conference rooms and attempting to add karaoke to Splash (but without making it tacky), so it's an ongoing area of development and I'm sure something they'll look at for peak times with this new accommodation in place!

This is looking truly magical, bring it on! :D

A huge investment to invite more guests to a mess!!!

The place this season has been an shambles, it's looked grubby all season, rides are breaking down left right and center, major theming and even ride stations are visibly falling to peices.

It won't even take that much to put a lot of stuff in the park right... a couple of Million thrown at it will do absolute wonders. Instead its left looking a Sh1t State and they are actively trying to get people to stay for more multiple day visits.

If 2013 doesn't see a clean up, i can see Visitor Satisfaction taking another dive - Again!!

What would you prefer, that they spend all the budget on the park looking up to date and clean, but have no new attractions? Or they spend a bit of the budget keeping the park ticking over but adding an £18million rollercoaster and a whole new accommodation area aswell?

I know what I would prefer... :p

Just to point out, i dont care about SW7, thats not part of this topic. They could add new attractions all the time and still use some spare cash to keep the place looking decent.

I'm simply talking about the accomodation. it's a rubbish idea IMO... ATM only.

Once the park has had a spruce up and is looking better than it is now, this will be Awsome

Re: Major New Accommodation in 2014 - Themed Lodges

I see your point regarding park maintenance, as it has dropped incredibly the past few years.

Although I disagree entirely that this accommodation is a rubbish idea. Alton Towers maintain their accommodation very well. Alton Towers Hotel and Splash Landings Hotel are forever being improved on. They've constantly been maintained. The same will go with the lodges in 2014.

Your original post seems to suggest they will leave the lodges to rot away once built? Have you not been to either of the hotels? They clearly illustrate that Alton Towers do not leave accommodation to rot.

Re: Major New Accommodation in 2014 - Themed Lodges

Well I think this is an awesome idea, and after hearing it being talked about for years it's nice to see it finally come to fruition. :)

I do like the theme and also the scale of the area they're using, with all the play areas and ponds it just looks like it will be so immersive. I would've like it to have some entertainments added tho, just to give it that something extra, plus it will be a relief for the hotels as there will now be a vast amount of people trying to cram into the hotels to see any shows or find a bar. :p

Also my favourite cabin is most definitely the 'Holes' (Hobbit houses) but unfortunately there are only 5 of them on the plans :(

Read what i said again and you'll see i said it's awsome, just not at the moment. if the aprk gets some TLC over 2013 (slim i know, but faith never hurt anyone) then these would be a fine addition to a loved, clean looking park. as it is though, they are just going to get more people throught the place whilst it'd looking sorry for itself.

Yeah i have been in both and very recently, i agree and disagree with you depending on where i am in the hotels. Splash i think is looking better than ATH, probably because it's newer. i hate the bathrooms in ATH, They are dirty and very old. The Recpetion of ATH also looks terribly tired of late, actually the last 18 months to be completely fair.
Talking aboutt he resort as a whole aswell, the Waterpark was laughable when we went on Friday morning with paint and rust everywhere, but i'll forgive that because its due some care shortly after christmas.

To answer your question though, i don't think anything on the resort is looked after at all and it shows quite blatantly. I think these lodges will be just the same.

Re: Major New Accommodation in 2014 - Themed Lodges

I think its also worth pointing out that on most occasions, when they do decide to pull their finger out and carry out 'improvements' they seem to be done on the cheap and to a low quality standard which quite often makes things look even worse than they were before.

Ok, so you don't care about SW7 thats fine, it isn't part of this topic but do mention the standard of the rest of the park, which also isn't part of the topic.

Your living in a dream world if you think the park can spend a couple of million a year on maintaining / sprucing up. I agree it needs doing but you cant do everything in one go. They may well want to do this but do not have the time or budget to do so. Thats why they are renovating areas one at a time. Hopefully once renovated they will then have a modest budget to keep things ticking over.

BUT how this has anything to do with this accommodation is beyond me. It will bring more money to the park which will allow them to invest more. Simple economics.

By the way the place isn't a sh1t hole as you put it. And, finally, you don't have to visit if you not happy with the standard of the park

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Separated from my rant, these looks amazing, with the water features and additional themeing this could be very special. Hopefully the budget is there for this to come to life. Well done AT!
