Icon has tragically had seatbelts and awkwardly clunky grab handles fitted to the trains. I'm already looking forward to the decrease in throughputs!

No idea. Surely only one of the seats on one train needs these modifications just for Mandy?
 
I'm looking to rebook a trip to PB, I'm currently looking into midweek in June. Is this a good time to go? I've heard some rides like River Caves which I'd love to do might be closed. Any help would be appreciated, cheers!
 
Some insurance policies require triple redundancy and Mack hydraulic restraints are a rather unusual industry outlier with only double redundancy. Seatbelts bring it up to triple.

Good time, as there will be few school trips this year, and a week or two before the full Tartan Invasion.
All lockdown rules hopefully gone by the 21st, so I imagine it is going to be a busy season for them from then.

Not heard anything about the Caves being closed, it is usually open right through the season.

What does this mean, out of interest? And surely Mack’s restraints are no less safe than other forms of lap bar only restraint without a seatbelt, such as the B&M hyper clamshells or the Maurer X-Car lap bars?

In simplistic terms the idea of redundancy is that if a mechanism fails, there is a back up in place. So in triple redundancy, you can have two failures and still have a third backup to keep the restraint in place. In double redundancy, you can only afford the initial failure and one more. Of course, the chance of any failure at all is miniscule.
 
Helix added seat belts, then something similar to Icon over the 2018 and 2019 seasons.

Copperhead Strike was built with them as well.
 
The lard blockage issues are now going to take twice as long to resolve.
Two lots to recheck after putting the chunky people into the back rows.

Wouldn’t that make other rides with only lap bars, such as B&M hyper coasters without seatbelts, double redundancy as well? As well as the Gerstlauers without seatbelts, like Smiler?

Or do B&M hypers and Gerstlauers have an additional layer of safety that makes them triple redundancy?

So Macks only have two hydraulic canisters holding the restraint in place. Gerstlauers have three to my knowledge. Most B&M restraints work on a racheting system instead of a hydraulic one so it’s a bit of a different ball game.
 
I have also heard a rumour from the Twittersphere that Icon will no longer be operating with 3 trains. This could of course be people just making a guess based on the seat belts being added, but it wouldn't be surprising. It would keep up a long tradition of the pleasure beach reducing a rides capacity after its first few seasons.
 
Have to admit that I'm not a fan of those seatbelts at all. They look bulky and ugly with the new grab handles. Usually I prefer rides with seatbelts, but I've ridden Icon without them and felt completely safe. Everyone knows that seatbelts are a redundant measure anyway. Plus it's been operating perfectly safe without seatbelts for over 2 years, why are they suddenly having to add them?! And as has been said above, there are plenty of other rides that use hydraulic restraints that only have double redundancy, such as Eurofighters, Infinititys, even travelling fair rides (for example, KMG Freak Outs)

The other thing that should be mentioned is detection of the failure. If the first component fails, it's important that the system detects the loss of redundancy and then prevents further use.

As an example, if a component in the restraint system fails mid-ride (worst-case scenario) then the other redundant component will keep the occupant restrained. However after the train has returned to the station, the failure will prevent the train from being dispatched with a new occupant.
 
I know Galactica's restraints have tripple redundancy (JW mentions it in his biography), and they don't have seatbelts. Would be intetesting to see how they work.
 
The other news doing the rounds at the moment is Amanda tweeting that Bradley Beaver will be back soon and to watch this space.



With the alleged contract for Nickelodeon land up this year, it does point to the possibility of a return to beaver creek or something similar.

How much cash they have to completely revamp the Nickelodeon area is another question entirely.
