Who says they can't have rides and a Christmas event?
I did the Europa Park Christmas event a couple of years ago and virtually everything was open.
They had a big Christmas market on the entrance street and they put an artificial ice rink over the rapids.
By the time the park closed (8pm), it was 2°C but still even the big coasters remained open.
I recall saying at the time that a UK park should try doing a large-scale Christmas event and I still think they should.

They could, if they wanted to, I just don't see it being the direction the park will be heading in anytime soon I still expect the main audience they are aiming at is families with kids who still want to meet Santa. That means there isn't much need for rides with a 1.4m restriction. They may look to move to a bigger event in a few years, but I expect there is more money selling a higher priced limited event with more focus on the special Christmas attractions.

It's not a strange decision at all in terms of £££, this is a quick and easy way to get tickets sold, I would not be surprised if we saw more than the usual discounted tickets this next season or so to go with it. Every little is needed to get people in to help recover from COVID.

Don't get me wrong, for a "theme park" it's look tacky as anything, but it's temporary and considering the circumstances I think one season like this is fair enough.

Which would be a valid point if this hadn’t been a glaringly obvious problem for 6 years which through a total refusal to deal with it has now got to the stage where they’re searching for a quick fix to sort it.

The pandemic has obviously not helped, but this park has gradually lost flat ride and filler ride after flat ride and filler ride and the park has done little to deal with that (albeit having installed an excellent ride in Wickerman.)

We’re now at the point where it’s clearly desperately needed and they’ve had to quickly draft in a load of fairground rides which by the looks of it would look out of place at Winter Wonderland for being too tacky.

X-Sector flat. Pleased to see, from that angle at least - that it looks ok and doesn’t seem to stick out too much in terms of fair ground appearance.

I guess it could be worse.

I do think it currently looks like a slightly stark contrast to the rest of the area, but I’m sure it probably looks more fitting from ground level. Besides, it’s only supposed to be a temporary stopgap.

The park probably even has more up their sleeves yet; they could be adding themed signage to it or something.

Obviously the fair ground appearance is only really seen from side on, on the ground. Not from the air like this.

Perhaps my expectations were just so low! It seems that backdrop with the fair ground murals isn’t visible in this newer picture which was the bit I wasn’t keen on.

Add some themed signage and it'll be fine for what it is - it'll probably be the better flat ride of the two in the area though, I like Enterprise but can see this being "better" so to speak.

Looks like they will be using Submission's old queue line, which will save them having to use temp fencing.
I agree, it looks fine and will probably look even better from ground level.
Cannot wait to ride it. :)

Yes it looks like that is a dead cert. The queue has been significantly cleaned up and plants replaced etc.

You have to ask yourself, where did it all go wrong.

Seeing an extremely cheap and tacky looking fairground ride next to what was the pinnacle of theme park technology just over 2 decades ago.

Whether those flats look out of place or not, as the saying goes "It's better than nothing" ;)

Alton is crying out for some flats and lets hope that these will show Alton/Merlin what they have been missing and will pave the way for something more substantial in the future

Just out of curiosity, where on that picture would be queue line entrance be? I don't recall where Submission's entrance was

The Submission entrance was around the front of the ride (blue arrow, roughly), it looks like from that pic the entrance will now be around to the side (red arrow).

Ah I see thanks! was struggling to see where the queueline actually started!

In other news it looks like The Smiler has had a bit of a clean. And are those multicoloured (and out of place) picnic benches new around Challenge The Smiler?
