That they're even mentioning the fact that CRR needs some theming is welcome news. They even mentioned "waterfalls". With some theming and water features, CRR is a great rapids. It's been very sad these past few years to see what it had become.

This kind of stuff is exactly what the park needs along with some of the fairground flats. Small investments to improve the experience. No point building £multi million coasters when the basics aren't there.

If it was my list, I'd refurbish the Oblivion queue line, add theming to CRR, RMT - including their shared tunnel and something to cover up that breeze block wall beside it as priorities. The TS stuff will bring some life back to the street.

Great to see that the waterfalls could be returning. Will be interesting to see what extra safety measures Towers have put in place though.

Does there really need to be anymore? We've got gates and staff manning various points, people should be responsible and not stand. I kind of find the notion of "standing" to switch sets or dodge getting wet rather strange when they've chosen to go on a water ride.

It actually looks like a huge amount of work has been done at Towers this off-season; phenomenal job, guys!

Like every off season
It’s still a huge amount of TLC work, though, with some projects (e.g. Congo River Rapids’ theming enhancements) sounding fairly extensive, and I personally think that it’s an absolutely fantastic effort on the part of the park; I’ll certainly applaud them for it!

It's a minimal theming project, almost definitely done in house with a small or no budget. But that's alright, Im not complaining cos it doesnt look bad. I just think things should be kept in perspective when they get put online like this

By the sounds of it I think it seems like quite a lot of work has been done and I'm really hoping the waterfalls are back on. Next thing I would do is clean up the smiler, which I assume they havent since its not been mentioned. The broken projectors should really be a priority, but also paint jobs and cleaning away the moss and dinginess

Bear in mind 90% of closed season work doesnt get mentioned. Realigning projectors is a given for every projector ever installed. It should just be expected really, same with cleaning the queue

I can’t understand why they don’t at the very least put some camo netting inside the rapids tunnel , combine that with some simple ivy (think garden centre supplies) , green lighting and misters and you’d have a huge improvement

I think this is a little more than “normal”. They paint things like the oblivion logo quite regularly, but I’m not convinced Battle Galleons has ever had this much work?

Fingers crossed for the waterfalls!

it says the “new mask and paddle features which sit in the bays of the waterfalls” so it sounds like this is something to fill the gaps where the water used to be... but it’s possible there will be low power theming waterfalls too , so not huge splashy ones, just enough to hide the wall.

It was 2016 the last time Battle Galleons had an extensive restoration; it was one of the first rides to be part of the original TLC programme. It sounds like what is being described is similar to what was done back then, though the shark has been restored again since then. Underwater mechanics really tend to suffer in fresh water lakes, if anyone remembers Excalibur at DMP had very similar issues with mechanics silting up.

Maybe, but if not then it should have, cos this sort of thing should be Routine Maintenance TM (let's say every 5 years or so)

On YouTube and social media fans are already way overhyping basic maintenance and a few added extras. Every time the council repairs some street lamps or repaints a fence do people take it to mean the town is undergoing an exciting redevelopment.

The frog lights are a sweet little update though.

Im sure Alton Towers know it's nothing special but they just don't realise the effect it has in fan circles. They probably think they're just making a simple post about the work that's gone on to remind people they exist.

And as @Squiggs has pointed out the Battle Galleons stuff was actually done five years ago. So although it isn’t every winter type routines, this is every five years routine maybe.

I think it’s nice that the park wants to show off what they have done as routine and just slightly more than routine work. I think there is a little bit of bigger stuff this year. But I also agree that too many people do get too excited over small things.

I think they know exactly what they're doing ... There are folks at Towers who lurk these boards and social media and know what will get attention (almost anything ... ).
