Merlin Annual Pass

I'd like to get back to the parks later this year, especially Towers, but unsure as to what I'll be doing with no passes on sale and a reluctance to keep paying for tickets as and when. My pass expired last February and I did not renew at the time due to all of the uncertainty.

Hopefully passes will become available again if the lockdown easing roadmap goes to plan!

My pass now lasts until March 2022 so I'm pretty happy with that. Certainly glad I renewed my pass when I went for Scare fest now.

Just checked my daughter pass. It expires in march.

I know this is not regarding merlin passes, but does anyone know the expiry date of 2020 Alton towers season passes. I know they were extended after last seasons delay, but I’d also imagine they will extend further due to a slight delay in this seasons opening date too.

My pass, originally purchases in July 2019, has not seen any further extension this time, rather annoyingly, expires on April 10th - two days before the parks reopen. I have no issue with the fact it hasn't been extended, though. The more that passes are extended... the worse the experience for all of us in 2021!

My question is this.

I need to renew prior to the re-opening of the parks in April. I also need to have a valid MAP to book using the portal (?). If I renew my MAP now, which I can using the website, will they automatically start it from the day after my current pass expires and/or have it expiring 12 months from the expiration date of my current pass?

I don't want to renew, say, this weekend and find my pass expires in February 2022...

Any thoughts?

If you originally purchased your season pass before 18th May 2020 then it is valid until 30th June 2021. No further extension due to the delay in the start of the 2021 season has been announced.

What are people's thoughts on when they will recommence selling passes? I was previously on the membership scheme, which had payments suspended for 5 or 6 months, but I cancelled it back in September as they were about tp restart monthly payments again and I didn't envisage I would use the pass until at least 2021 opening.

With the road map announced this week, assuming al going well, I'd hope to visit in April. Would be great if I can get a pass for then... do people think this would be likely?

My gut thought is that monthly passes won’t be back until much later into the season . They will want time to see the effect of not offering it , and how the parks cope when there’s significantly less pass holders to deal with

Anybody know the date that 2020 season passes was extended too?

Have a feeling it was June, but can't find the email

I don't think it'll be yet.

In the interim, friends and family tickets could be an option.

I reckon once the 2020 Season passes expire on 30th June, they'll have lost sufficient pass volume to restart full price MAP sales.

Yeah I expect they want to see the extensions on current passes start to expire before gaining new customers with passes. If people don’t renew maybe it will happen sooner, but they probably want fewer pass holders.

I actually have a lot of respect for the MAP team currently. They're getting a lot of abuse on social media and it can't be easy enacting changes which they know is going to cause a backlash. The step change in annual passes seems, finally, to be here.

Probably worth dropping them a message.

I would say usually it would just get added on to your current pass, however with all these exteriors and such I don’t know if their system will do that or if it will just start from now.

I believe when you do renew you’ll get a digital pass straight away whilst you wait for the physical one, so in theory you could leave that quite last minute to renew. That’s if the new booking system lets you book with your current pass expiring.

I have emailed and had a reply. Basically, don't renew until your pass has expired, and then renew within 8 weeks. The pass is sent digitally so you won't miss out. RE: Booking tickets for the parks, as long as you present a valid pass when visiting and have a valid pass at the time of booking, it's fine.
