Now this could be an interesting discussion, albeit controversial. I'm a young bloke, but for a while now I've secretly been thinking about maybe getting a pair of UGGs one day. I say secretly, because they're more well known as women's boots and I'm not sure what people would say.

I wouldn't be able to afford them for a while yet I don't think (genuine sheepskin so very expensive), but the more I see people wearing them, the more I want a pair. They look so comfy. :p

They do actually sell men's sizes, in the Classic Short Boot and Classic Mini Boot styles, and they were originally devised in the States to keep surfers feet warm.

Whether you own a pair or not, what's your view on UGGs and do you think it's right for men to wear them? Or am I silly for even thinking about wanting a pair one day?

Eww Uggs, awful awful things - these boots aren't made for walking. There's zero support, and when everyone used to wear them you saw so many people with their feet rolled inwards and you just know it's ruining their joints and back.

They're not worth it considering the only use for them are as very expensive slippers. If you're actually going to use them outdoors, you're better off get something more practical (and cheaper!) that you don't have to stress about getting wet, stained and destroying your feet and back!

Also...I can see who voted yes and I'm judging you all :sweatsmile:

Are we really keeping a thread up that is essentially discussing whether a pair of shoes should be restricted to one gender, and making jokes based on that ? Yikes

Perhaps the thread title is a bit tone deaf at first glance, but I can't see any jokes myself? If the OP wants to express their anxiety in regards to this in good faith, that seems reasonable to me. Towers Street isn't Twitter, home of "yikes".

Nonetheless, it is 2021, and I feel strongly that shoes should not be gendered. Saying that, I also feel strongly that UGGS are some of the worst footwear ever to tread upon this sodden earth, so swings and roundabouts.

There's no gender based jokes? Merely a comment that they're more well known as women's boots, which is a fact. This is a community based forum, members create their content, and others can make a decision whether or not to participate in discussion in those subjects. Not everything has to be made into some sort of controversial topic, if you don't wish to participate simply skip past the topic.

I just don’t get why it wouldn’t be “right” for someone to wear whatever they want , it’s a moot point to me really . Why someone would be “judged” is truly beyond me

People can wear what they want. I'm entitled to think they're a fashion disaster and the owner has poor taste. Don't try and make it into something sinister.

- Gender is a construct , wear what you want

- If someone else is wearing or wants to wear something you wouldn’t, mind your own

That’s literally all there is to it

I finally gave into my croc snobbery for shed/bin shoes last year and loved them, until bin juice infiltrated them in the winter :(

I wear crocs instead of slippers and I also have a spare pair for the garden/bin shoes. I stop wearing slippers a few years ago as I just kept on wearing them out, they were only lasting me a month. I was also terrible at treading the backs down.

The answer is no, no one should be wearing UGG boots as they are bad for your feet. You need to wear something that will give good support to your feet

Thanks for that, it was interesting. Unfortunately I happen to have flat feet lol. :p:(
Although I've had insoles for that since I was little.

Thinsulate slippers are indestructible, comfy and warm. I think mine are in about their 5th year now of almost daily use.

I read the original post as a young guy expressing his anxieties about wearing something in public that other people like him possibly wouldn't, with a bit of a light hearted sentiment thrown in to boot. I don't read this as him asking for approval or judgement from us lot (which he doesn't need) or starting some serious debate about the rights and wrongs of the world.

@Skyscraper I have no idea what UGG boots are, but from I've read on here they seem uncomfortable. But either way, you wear whatever you want mate and be happy about that. I have zero fashion sense and keep getting told off for wearing my pyjama trousers and Sonic the Hedgehog T shirt when I put the bins out by the other half. I couldn't give a toss what the cars passing by think and neither should you.
