Long term development plan

If a cross-valley coaster is built, it won't be a woodie. Too loud, with too dense a structure, and we already know Merlin don't like them. It'll be a B&M or Intamin hyper, with a support structure designed to minimise tree loss.

Not going to complain if that is the case though!

The main changes in comparison to the
medium investment option would be investment in larger coasters
(faster/higher) and a further hotel/overnight accommodation (for example a
200 bedroom budget hotel). This would allow for more significant investment in
local infrastructure including contributions to a new access road sinking fund, if
a suitable route is available for which permission to build can be obtained.

This bit caught my eye. in the heavy investment section on page 26 not only does it seem the resort isn't opposed to the idea of a BUDGET hotel but also seems they havent given up hope on some sort of relief road to and from the park either! both concepts that have long been thought of as of little interest to Merlin!

Also the last page dated from 1992 is interesting, showing the staff car park when SW7s track is currently located as an area for future development for"entertainment facilities" is interesting as i have never really given that site much though as a potential expansion point, but I suppose it could work as you coudl have access from both the Nemesis site and down the side of Duel, though wether this site still has potential as a development site remains to be seen with the resort having since expanded to the east instead.

I love the heading for Appendix 3 - "Long Term Plan Indicative Masterplan" - very James Bond-esque ;)

A potentially interesting addition to the LTDP masterplan map since the initial version was released in 2009. Katanga Canyon has now been identified as a "retheming and regeneration / opportunity area". Of course it doesn't mean it's going to happen but it is something that's been added sometime between 2009 and 2012.

:)

If they re theme their most accomplished themed area I will be miffed. I'm also not keen on them moving the entrance, firstly because Towers Street is a beautiful entrance and second because it will create a bottleneck on the left side of the park.

I agree with you on both parts there Dave. I doubt they will re-theme Katanga though, the plans seem to show that Forbidden Valley is also a potential re-theme area and that's clearly not going to happen any time soon with the addition of Sub-Terra. Moving the entrance would be a travesty in my eyes, walking down Towers Street with the Towers in front of you is just perfect.

The LTDP also shows how late SW7 was planned. There is nothing in the plan that suggests that the Black Hole site is an area of major development. Also if we are only getting one more major (outdoor) coaster between 2013 and 2019 (in 2019) then I personally don't think we will see a cross valley coaster until after 2020. You have to think that the next major coaster after SW7 will be what was originally planned for SW7 but has been pushed back. It will probably be the "next major coaster development" that Wardley said he and Merlin Studios were working on, and it will probably be on the Air car park.

:)

It's always possible though that the concept we think Wardley is working on with B&M is actually a planned indoor coaster type... It would fit with the large indoor ride plan for 2016. Though I agree it is unlikely.

I also hope they don't decide to move the entrance as the view down Towers Street is magical. However, it will probably be a choice of that or severely investing in transport around the resort as the current monorail will be fairly redundant if and when the main car parking moves onto what is currently the overflow fields.

That is definitely a possibility. The main reason I think otherwise is that there were very strong rumours of SW7 being on the Air car park and/or using other parts of FV. B&M 4D would make sense, maybe something more advanced than the Arrow design. You've got to think that whatever it is would be for Towers though given what's happened in the past.

:)

You all remember the newspaper clipping on the Info Kiosk in Mutiny Bay?!?!
By some its regarded as a wind up for Enthusiast's still ...... But I've still got hope.

We now know Alton don't class SW projects belonging to just coasters... What if your next big indoor attraction is The Flume replacement in 2012!!!

It fits with the LTDP, the info that has been uncovered I the new plans and the first peek that came from the clipping... If memory serves, it never had a date on it when "The Duck's days were numbered"

In terms of the spinball site it says above 5m, what can towers do, dig down :) then a family coaster could still slot into that area

Without digging through the whole development plan, is anything mentioned about Towers Street and the Monorail?

I assume with the relocation of the main entrance the Monorail would become surplus to requirements? A big shame in my book, that journey through forbidden valley, gloomy wood and katanga canyon is something magical.

Do we know what would happen with Towers Street? Would it be redeveloped into a new land? Or is this part of the area they plan on keeping less of an eye-saw?

After a quick scan through there is nothing I didn't won't to see it looks pretty well planned will have a more in depth read later on :)

That really was just a creation by the guy who runs Sales & Info, don't read anything into that too deeply.

There is a mention of the relocation of the main entrance and how it would allow for the development of towers street and admin offices.

I think relocating the entrance and using Towers Street for more theme park is a horrific idea. Towers Street is such a fantastic and grand entrance into the park. It really is a magical way to begin the day and the view of the Towers is incredible. It's what sets it apart from all other UK parks and many other parks around the world.

What about the shops, ticket booths, monorail and a lack of somewhere to stand when it's fireworks time? :(

I personally don't think we will see a new entrance any time soon. It clearly is something they have considered, but if you look at the LTDP there are so many things they are considering; there's no chance of them all happening. I can't remember where I heard this from as it was a couple of years ago but I do remember hearing that when she was at the park Morwenna had said that after some thought the plans for the new entrance near Duel were either unlikely or not going to happen.

:)

I apologise if i'm jumping the gun abit, but i've just found something which might hint as a small retheme in X-Sector?

Notice how it leaves it at 'and'...

It's also recent aswell, it has Dark Forest instead of Ug Land.

I'm fairly sure that's just referring to the areas of the park covered by GDOs rather than areas which will change theme. It also presumably says and there in order to connect area 3 to area 4 in a grammatical sense :)
