The World of David Walliams: General Discussion

Just watched a POV. I wouldn't usually advocate for a review based on a rider-shot video, but am comfortable doing so in this case.

This looks alright. I'm not a fan of Walliam's sub-Dahl source material, but the storytelling and show programming looks fine if nothing spectacular; probably representative of the book. I don't think dark rides should be shoehorned in quite so aggressively as this, but the intimacy seems to work in its favour. The staging in unexpectedly theatrical.. The penultimate scene that attempts to blend a physical model with moving visuals looks very flat (pun entirely intended)

Given it's audience, which I guess would be those too old for CBeebies and for whom Hex might be a touch overwhelming, it doesn't seem dynamic enough. It's probably more suitably for five-year olds than nine-year olds?

As has been repeated ad-infitum in this thread, this really should have opened alongside another ride.

Just watched one too, it's physched me up to ride it even more! Personally I think it looks great for what it is. :)
POV is below if anyone wants to have a look. (contains spoilers obvs)

With 2 coasters on 45 mins, both of which are 1.2mtr ones and GG on an hour, I still maintain what I said that the park should not be closing at 4pm today, but then I don't think it should any day. It will be interesting to see what queues in gets later in the week from tomorrow onwards. The fact GG is ONLY an hour suggests it is a particularly quiet day

Well we’re doing our second go on Gangsta granny, we’re currently halfway round the advertised 30 minute queue - it’s been 50 minutes. This queue will be absolutely miserable on weekends !

It’s a perfectly well thought out family attraction for the small budget it likely had, and a definite step up in quality for the park . There just needs to be a few more similar experiences based on the other books to soak up the guests !

From the POV whats there looks fine (most dark rides are screen based now). Some of it I would even say is good and with the stop start nature the ride appears to have a decent length to it.

If this has 4 cars and two are cycling then you are dispatching a car every 2 to 2.5 minutes. The issue this ride is going to have is throughput. Once the RAP queue and fast track takes its chunk I can imagine astronomical queues forming.

Not sure if GG will be FastTrack enabled, but if it is then FastTrack and RAP will be combined as there are only two entrances.

I don't like screen rides but with such a limited budget in such a small building I think they've done better than I was expecting. But watching that POV it looks decent enough and has a surprisingly good length to it. It looks perfectly decent as a small family dark ride and the park should have more of these.

I think it's worth noting that this attraction, whilst brand new, isn't aimed at many of us. No way on Earth would I wait 60 mins plus for it.

I can only imagine how cringe worthy it must have been to see all the vloggers there this morning effectively critiquing a ride aimed at 6 to 10 years olds primarily.

How did I guess...

Considering no other ride has had anything, there was never going to be any chance that this one would so I don't think this is a surprise? Aside from vinyls which are easy to remove, showmen aren't going to permit anything else to be done to a ride that's only there temporarily.

At least this one actually has the golden balls around the side and an actual sign for an entrance rather than just a board! Saw a picture earlier though and the building behind Raj's Bouncy Bottom Burp looked dirty!

This might just be me with my high standards but if I was David Walliams I'm not so sure I want my IP / brand new area to open with a fairground ride that is un-themed personally.

The other flat rides in the park i'm not particularly in favour of either but I can accept that capacity is an issue etc so reluctantly I can get on board with those. However opening up a brand new themed land of the park with a travelling ride is all kinds of wrong. A real shame.

I watched the POV, it looks fun but I think the ride is ultimately flawed in that it has to stop multiple times for long periods of time so that it lasts more than 30 seconds. The very short layout means running as a constantly moving ride wouldn't really work - but doesn't this in turn mean that the throughput will be extremely low?

Towers look to have done a great job with the ride system they have, but the issue is that it's yet another case of Merlin underfunding a project and giving them a second-hand ride system not designed for a park as busy as Alton.

I'd have rather seem something like W&G for the ride system (8 seater vehicles, constantly moving, a much longer layout) than essentially 3 corners which stop constantly.
