Chessington World of Adventures Resort

I'd love to know how many people have been turned away from a theme park because of a temperature check, I bet it is not very many. They're more for show (and ticking a risk assessment box) more than anything else.

I can not believe that a temperature check is responsible for such long queues. How long can it really take to do? If that is the reason for an 'alleged' two hour queue to get into the Park then I would be amazed. Sounds like an excuse they are hiding behind.

I suggest the 90 minute queue times for multiple rides around the park might suggest that it is more to do with tickets sold and under staffing, rather than a quick non-contact temperature check.

They are taking an absolute battering.

I'd probably wait 2 hours to get as far away from Chessington as possible in a half term week rather than wait 2 hours to get in the place.

In a normal non-covid time there is no hold up entering the park really, you scan ticket and go in.
Thorpe Park gets queues due to bag checks and knife checks.
But Chessington you used to just go straight to turnstiles. Only thing that has really changed is temperature checks. Get rid of them and people could go straight to the turnstiles again speeding entry back up.

Last Saturday I waited around 30 minutes to get into the park.

No issue with temperature checks / security. They happened about halfway down and were being held up by the line itself.

The queue was for the turnstiles / faff with tickets.

I struggle to believe that the queue was over an hour even if that whole cattlepen was full.

They were probably staffed for a quiet day. Then over the weekend someone realised their systems had allowed XX thousands to be sold, and then they extended the hours - but realised they didn't have the staff.

Alton Towers is really well organised on the plaza this season, even if you arrive on a bumper Saturday - you don't wait long on the plaza. Loads of staff, temperature checks and it's really easy. Chessington - and Thorpe - look like hell.

Chessington's infrastructure and ride stock is simply no longer fit for a busy day.

I went on a DEAD day a few weeks back, and the quite well socially distance queue stretched back across the service road and halfway up the hotel carpark even then. Took about 25 minutes, but it was the only hint of a queue all day so I wasn't too fussed.

That day it was all because if the bag check and pat down. One group into the between gate area at a time for two of the four security guards to do their thing. The other two didn't look very gainfully employed because they'd set up within two meteres of the other two so they all couldn'twork at the same time. Not the best planing!!

Last time I was there the back of the dragons lair was open so you could see all the workings inside. I know it's not supposed to look good back there, but it looked a right mess.

The rotating feature of Croc Drop appears to have been switched off, once again Merlins investment in quality hardware is paying off /s

I wonder if that's as a result of the parking issues I experienced?

I went on the two new kiddie drop towers at Paultons last week and they genuinely give so much of a better ride than this pile, so much more forceful, and they are just a small side attraction to their new area which puts EVERYTHING currently at Chessington to shame.

Paultons is the best family park in the UK right now and puts all the Merlin parks to shame full stop.

Chessington are doing a summer festival event for the school holidays

With the addition of the festival field adding a beach and helper skelter it does sound like the idea of adding additional temporary capacity has reached them too
