The Future of Events at the Resort

Apologies if a similar thread already exists but I thought it would be interesting to gauge people's ideas of events that they would like to see the park try in the future. Whether these ideas are slight tweaks of existing events, the return of events from the past or entirely new events all together, I want to know what you people would like to see come to the park in future seasons :))

- A summer concert series
- A family Pride weekend (think DLP)
- After hours parties (18+)

All of these would hit different demographics and all offer ample opportunity for additional revenue !

I’d love to see the Resort do a new take on the Easter event, similar to the old Chocolate Towers from the 2000s! That looked like such a fun event, and one I wish I could have experienced!

I really think a pride event would be great for the park, but I fear that there are still too many bigots around who may ruin it for others. It would be nice for the park to show support to the LGBTQIA+ community in some way though, perhaps through a merch line with the proceeds donated to various associated charities.

I would personally love to see the return of concerts, especially with the new stage setup. Perhaps even a festival-type event where multiple acts play each day over a weekend. I could see the park charging a decent amount for three days of park entry and music, and I think it would only work if they allowed camping somewhere on site (perhaps the overflow car parks?), but it could be a good event if done correctly. Of course I think that might be reaching a fair bit as it would likely be a logistical nightmare, but I can dream :))

And finally yes, 18+ parties after hours would be great BUT there are the obvious issues associated with noise levels and the locals. Although an after hours silent disco could be interesting with food stalls and limited rides or something.

About 15 years ago there was something of an unofficial gay day at Alton Towers. Same as the unofficial one at Disney, anyone who is there for it was to wear a red t-shirt. Unfortunately I think there was only about 20 people in red, but I had a fun day.

There was also a massive semi-official pride event circa 2005, for which they extended the ride close until 9PM in August.

Nobody turned up!

We’ve come on a long way since 2005, young families are now so much more likely to support Pride events and teach love and acceptance than older generations

- Night time ghost hunting tours of the Towers / Gardens.

- Big summer event with real BBQ stalls, cocktail stands, singers on the stage, splash zones set up for the kids.

Agreed, wasn't diminishing the idea, just saying that it wasn't a surefire hit. I'm sure that the event might be more roundly supported by Merlin now, rather than the work of an external events company.

@jon81uk it was the Gaydar event, yes.

I think as well the fact it was a Gaydar event meant it only appealed to a subset of the LGBT+ community too. As it was based around the clubbing and dance music party

Also from memory the pricing was off, it was expensive for what was offered. I think they then changed it so the dance party was separate from the park entry which made the pricing better?

Did a bit of googling and found a Pink News article A gay old time (pinknews.co.uk)
I expect the main reason (other than the demise of Gaydar) it didn't come back was the three people admitted to hospital after taking drugs.
Pride events have changed a lot too and I think a more "family" style event would be better than just a random dance tent now anyway. Plus I don't think Gen Z go clubbing anyway.

Don't know what you're on about, these fellow kids look like their having a right good ol' sesh...

The girl in the yellow cardi looks as though she's about to cry. Probably hates clubbing as much as I did! Thankfully I'm far too old for it now. She still has her twenties to endure!

Very offended Gen Z clubber here

I do think a Pride event would be a brilliant idea for the park, and I think overall would attract more support than protest to it, plus anyone who would have an issue with it I'm sure we'd all appreciate not seeing at AT again.

Concerts should absolutely come back, AT is such a unique location for a gig I'm surprised they stopped doing them.

- Night time ghost hunting tours of the Towers / Gardens.

This or some kind of Scarefest sleepover event in the towers similar to what they do in museums and similar to the scare rooms that they used to have in the hotel with actors coming in throughout the night. Great use of the towers and no chance of complaints from other guests like there was in the hotel.

I personally like the idea of some kind of NYE event, with fireworks and rides running throughout the night, but I imagine this is impossible due to 1) I don't think the rides can operate in those temperatures? and 2) I doubt the locals would be happy with coasters rumbling around all night.

I'd love to see a water projection show come to the lake in front of the towers, similar to the one that operates at Universal Studios Orlando. It could be a real spectacle, with a good fountain package, lighting and lasers. As for the show, I'd like to see a few with different ones playing depending on the season/event. Outside of any events, it would be nice to have a show that celebrates the history of various iconic attractions, with imagery and POV's being accompanied by original and remixed musical scores. Each Scarefest could host a different show, perhaps accompanied by live performers. The ideas are really limitless and I think it'd be a great fit for the park, especially with the backdrop of the Towers right behind the lake. Of course lighting and projectors on the Towers themselves could also be incorporated into these shows.

I'm not sure as to whether this would be at all possible but I think it's a cool idea.
