Thorpe Park: General Discussion

It is important to remember the impact of enforcing face mask and exemption rules on ride throughputs currently.

Anytime someone has their bar checked and isn’t wearing a mask, restrains have to be released, the rider either fetching their mask or move to the back, and the whole ride re-checked again.

Ive noticed The Swarm is stacking on 2 trains regularly this season, when that never used to be the case. Mask enforcement is clearly the cause
That’s a good point, actually; when I was in the station, I did notice a couple of people switching rows.

Apparently Samurai has been “95% dismantled” according to Merlin’s Beard on Twitter:

Could it be undergoing a very in-depth refurbishment by Mondial? Or could they possibly even be replacing the old Samurai Top Scan with a new Top Scan?

Whatever they’re doing to it, they’ve certainly done it quickly, because it looked very much intact when I was there on Sunday!

A lot of people in the comments are saying it should be moved to Towers in one of the Retrosquad spots, could we see that happening after a refurb by Mondial? Would be cool but I highly doubt that's the case though.

Samurai is more trouble than it's worth, it's over 20 years old and almost certainly approaching end of life. Merlin would be mad to give it a 3rd home at Towers.
I meant after the refurb, not straight away. ;):p
Highly unlikely anyway, just speculation. :)

Also, Samurai is still mounted on the trailer it was transported to the park on, so the fact it's been fully dismantled isn't a good sign.

So I went to Thorpe on Monday with my family, usual day at Thorpe really (breakdowns, long queues, etc). But thought I would post about changes to COVID having visited the other week.

DBGT is now running at full capacity, but you still have to pre-book entry, which does mean you haven’t got to wait long for the ride, however pre books remained available pretty much all day. It also didn’t seem to open until 1pm as that was the first slot available (unless hotel guests get access?). The ride ran the same as it has this season, however being stuck in the second room with such a large group meant you couldn’t actually see the staff member, but at least they had a mic.

Black mirror also remains pre book, and tickets seem to stay available all day for this according to the queue boards. They were batching groups of 8 on there.

Everything else was operating as pre COVID with all rows/seats being used on the rides. One way systems gone, queues outside shops, restaurants, etc also all gone. But pizza pasta was not buffet

I know this is very subjective, but how safe did it "feel".

Personally I don't think I would want to do something like DBGT without a majority of people wearing masks. But on an outdoor coaster I wouldn't be as concerned.

It certainly felt strange, I did DBGT earlier this season and there were only about 15 people, to them do it again with 60 odd people all stuck in small rooms is weird. I would say if you don’t want to be near people then don’t do it, as the pre show is fairly small, as is the next room.

Black mirror wasn’t so bad as was only w group of 8 and you tend to end up getting split up and lost anyway

Had a bitterly disappointing 12:45 go on Black Mirror LABYRINTH, way too many people in the attraction that various effects and scenes didn't fire, the mirror maze became a Congo line and I even ended up in the final room with both doors shut and it not in the final scene show mode.

Is the park as quiet as the app appears to make out? Longest queue is 20mins on a summer Sunday? Seems very quiet compared to Alton Towers.
