Six Flags Fiesta Texas: General Discussion

Favourite Ride
Nemesis
Six Flags Fiesta Texas hasn't been around for as long as other parks near it like Over Texas and SeaWorld San Antonio, however, it certainly has a very rich history with loads of things happening ever since the quarry where the amusement park itself resides today. The park was developed by the Gaylord Entertainment Company who owned the now defunct Opryland in Nashville and the USSA Real Estate Company also decided to help achieve the goal back then of building Fiesta Texas which is what it opened as with ride like Power Surge, an Intamin Shoot-the-chutes which closed only in 2017, the Gully Washer, a rapids ride which still operates today along with the Kiddee Coaster which was built by Vekoma and many other children's rides and of course the Rattler, a wooden coaster built by the Roller Coaster Corporation of America, which would prove to have a rather rocky start despite being the world's tallest, fastest and steepest wooden coaster meaning it was reprofiled in 1994 due to complaints from park guests.
The park has installed many more major rides since it's opening including Superman Krypton Coaster, Goliath, Poltergeist, a Vekoma Boomerang and of course, they've been recognised more ever since they converted the Rattler into a hybrid RMC coaster called Iron Rattler, installing the prototype S&S Free spin, Batman: The Ride, and The Joker Carnival of Chaos a massive Zamperla Giga Discovery, which debuted last year but the ride Fiesta Texas has been most known for recently is getting an RMC Raptor single rail prototype coaster in 2018 called Wonder Woman Golden Lasso Coaster which opened to great reviews and has now a lot of people booking visits to Fiesta Texas.

Has anyone ever been before. Let me know your thoughts and opinions on Six Flags Fiesta Texas and how they're soon to get a new ride know as Daredevil Dive: Flying Machines!

Sorry to bump the thread, but Six Flags Fiesta Texas has begun a teaser campaign for some kind of major 2022 ride. It will be replacing the park’s Sundance Theatre and looks to have some kind of steampunk plague doctor theme (?) at first glance:

However, what’s more interesting is the type of ride being rumoured. It’s rumoured that SFFT will be building the world’s first S&S Axis coaster for 2022. These rumours are not unfounded by any means; Six Flags and S&S have a strong working relationship, the ride has already been described as a “world’s first” and “5 years in the making” by the park’s general manager, and the stock S&S Axis layout fits the space being cleared perfectly, so I would not be at all surprised if SFFT did build the world’s first S&S Axis.

Watch this space… the next few months could be interesting for SFFT!

It would not surprise me if the new S&S Axis coasters were the next coaster type that Six Flags go for in a number of their parks. Looking forward to seeing what is announced for 2022 seeing as we had pretty much no new ride annoucements last year!

Hopefully, it'll be free of a tacked-on DC superhero theme.
Based on the marketing, it looks like it might be; it looks like they’re going for a steampunk vibe of some sort, and the plague doctor(?) type characters roaming around promoting the ride certainly don’t look like anything associated with DC.

Sorry for double posting, but the 2022 project has now been announced, and I think that to call it a surprise would be quite the understatement; according to those at the fan event it’s been announced at, the 2022 project is a B&M Dive Coaster named Dr Diabolical’s Cliffhanger!

Little else is known besides that at the moment, but I’ll be sure to report back if I hear anything new.

I don’t know about you, but I certainly wasn’t expecting that… I reckon it could be absolutely legendary, though, with SFFT’s cliff side terrain!

Sorry for triple posting, but I’m hearing more out of the event. Some of the info I can gather is:
  • 150ft tall
  • 2,501ft long
  • 60mph top speed
  • Elements including “face-first cliffhanger”, 95 degree drop, Immelmann, 270 degree zero-g roll, airtime hill, near-vertical drop & “high-speed spiral”
  • World’s steepest dive coaster, with a 95 degree drop; therefore, this is the world’s first B&M dive coaster with a beyond-vertical drop (!)
Exciting stuff, no?

Wow! Not what I was expecting! Six Flags using B&M! Hopefully with them now clearly not adding something new to every park every year they can start to do things like this. They cost a bit more but will pull more people in and are better quality saving on maintance cost. I have wanted six flags to realise that sometimes you have to put that bit extra in and to me it looks like they have! I believe Six Flags never stopped trusting or disliking B&M it was more that there budget didn't allow them to build them but clearly that has changed.

Interesting stats! B&M going into the beyond vertical market is interesting although I'm sure it'll be better than the Gertslaur ones that are completely hit or miss.

This is great news both for Six flags as a chain, this park and B&M. Very pleased!
Have we got any concept art?

There is now a page on Six Flags’ website with concept art, stats & a storyline: https://www.sixflags.com/fiestatexas/attractions/dr-diabolicals-cliffhanger

The storyline is actually quite in-depth for a Six Flags ride! According to the website, it is:
Six Flags Fiesta Texas said:
Dr. Diabolical proclaims to have an elixir from the fountain of youth that is capable of preserving life. She lures unsuspecting visitors to partake, but little do they know that she is using them to fulfill her evil plan to frighten the world with her menacing creatures. This machine is called Dr Diabolical’s Cliffhanger.

The device has three 21-passenger trains to lift riders 150 feet in the air, then lock them in a face-first Cliffhanger hold just before dropping them down a 95-degree, beyond-vertical plummet at 60 mph. The machine travels on 2,501 feet of track through an Immelmann inversion, a 270-degree zero-g roll, a 75-foot near-vertical drop, a wild-banked turn, an extreme airtime hill, and a high-speed spiral finale. Once you are exposed to this menacing machine, you shall live forever… IN FEAR!
Interesting, don’t you think? Could we see some more in-depth theming/storytelling on this compared to your average Six Flags coaster?

Also, in another bizarre quirk, it would appear that this will be the world’s first 7-across dive coaster, with each car seating 21 riders…

Sorry for the double post, but we now have a POV:

I think that looks excellent, personally! Really well paced, with some fun looking elements!

Looks like one of the best layouts of any dive coaster to me.

I have just had a thought though. How likely is it that this is a package deal with B&M for a few coasters around the six flags chain over the next few years? B&M often do this as do many manufactures.

My only criticism is the lack of a hole/tunnel or even a themeing element as part of the initial drop. Really think Valrayvn suffers for not having one compared to the other dive machines I've done (Oblivion, Baron, Valkyria).

A brand new B&M at a Six Flags Park? This has come somewhat out of the blue, and will be the first one in 10 years (the last being X-Flight at Great America). Looks a fairly substantial layout as well. Very impressed, a great addition for the park!
