I never knew that sub terras queue used to be Nemesis queue! That explains how it used to get 3-4 hour queues as there's no way the current queue could hold that. Id be surprised if it took any longer than 90 mins with the current queue line, given how good the throughput is

It was a fast moving queue too. Although the park was at pretty much the peak attendance it's ever achieved when it opened, there was no fast track so a very long queue moving faster

Found it with a bit of googling.

I think the blue is the original 1994 queue and the pink is roughly the current queue.

Looking at the image, quite a bit of the original queue is still used, just accessed from the lift hill side not the loop/station side. I think it could easily hold a two hour queue and with fasttrack that could get up to three hours. I've waited almost an hour just using the first loop, add in the section to the right of the lift hill and it will get over two hours.

Yeah I enjoyed walking the left hand side these past 2 seasons and getting that different view across the pit. It's the right hand side blue bit I'd like to do again. Even if they did let us, it would involve going into Galactica's ride area so I'd imagine it would be mostly impossible now.

But of only, eh? I'd pay to do a tour of all this again.

In this video from 2000, in the opening 20 seconds, you can clearly see the Nemesis extension queueline going through what is now Sub Terra's queueline from the monorail.

great footage. I can only imagine how long you would have had to have waited on opening day. Through all of nemesis extension queeliens as well as probably some extra.

Some of the extensions, including those utilised for Sub-Terra, were literally built overnight as the 1994 season progressed, as the queues proved to be so long, so consistently. You'd see it filled pretty regularly up until the early noughties.

Also, although the idea of waiting in a 3hour or longer queue feels a bit off now, back then there was nothing else like it in Europe and the only other fully thrill coaster in the park was Corkscrew or Thunder Looper. If you waited half your day for Nemesis I suppose it was worth it because you probably weren't so bothered about Peter Rabbit on Ice or Toyland Tours!

When were the virtual ticket machines installed. I remember having to get a paper ticket from a machine on the ramp opposite the sub terror entrance

We queued around 4 hours for it in 1994.

But it was worth it - the ride was so unique and groundbreaking- especially for Europe

I get them at the younger members of the community won’t get it, but this really was a special ride. It would be an engineering challenge now, but back then this was a real achievement.

I guess this is why people go on about the good old days on here. Alton then did truly push the boundaries - and I’d say they did right up until AIR openers.

Isn't the smiler the definition of pushing the boundaries. They fit 14 inversions in the space of an old tent

I knew someone would say that... :)

In my opinion, The Smiler isn’t the same league as Nemesis in terms of engineering quality and end product
