First time back since the 90s

It was my first visit back to the park yesterday since the early 90s, while of course there has been many changes over the last 30 years. In some areas it still looked as how I remembered it, though some rides have of course gone like the Flume. (Trying to dig out the photo at the moment from our albums)

One question about the flume. I was standing in the queue line for Rapids and my daughter said whats that over there. It looked like remains of a ride and I assumed it was the flume but it looked like it once went over the path and Rapids which im sure it didn't. I did find a pic online as mine didnt come out, so was this part of the old Flume ride?

Yep that is part of the old Flume. It was the run off for the drop in the dark (the building and drop were removed, the concrete was left) which then continued underground for a while.

The underground section is still there locked up with old theming and ride channel in place.

Had no idea this was all still there - the park should offer behind-the-scenes tours of stuff like this!

I can't fault the park for removing the Flume to make way for Wicker Man but I have to say I do really miss it - so few parks have good log flumes these days and the giant rubber ducks were a lot of fun (when the effects actually worked!).

Agreed, I started doing Theme parks again once my children were old enough after years of not going as busy doing other stuff like music Gigs. However I noticed that nearly all the theme parks have got rid of their flumes. I think Flamingo Land is the only one still with one but I don't think it's the original one I went on in the 80s/90s. Iast time I went to Lightwater Valley we went on The Lightwater Wheel (also gone now). I then realised we were on the site of what was a kind of Flume. Devils something I think it was called back then. Though it was more like a big red skip plunging into water.

Chessington have actually added a second one!

Yes I was forgetting that both them and Legoland still have them whileThope Park kind of have one in Tidal Wave, though the famous Loggers Leap is gone. I think Alton Towers has a gap in the market for a decent water ride. The rapids is Ok for what it is.

Isn't there also still a kiddie flume at BPB in Nickelodeon Land?

Yeah there are a few kiddie ones still (Skull Rock at Oakwood is another that springs to mind) but they're really not a patch on the likes of Loggers Leap etc.

Think Legoland still has Pirate Falls but I've not ridden it since I was about 8 so can't remember if it's a kiddie one or not!

I may have gone on that back in the 90s (pre-megafobia!) but not sure.

For some reason I am okay with Depth Charge at Thorpe. Its just log flumes I had/have a fear of.
I really enjoyed The Flume - you got a real sense of adventure and felt like you had left the park after the first small drop, but it was falling apart in the last couple of years. With regards to fearing the ride, I never consciously felt this way however I always used to have a dream a few days after riding it where the log would fall out of the trough!

You should try Waterfall at Oakwood.

Oh my god I nearly chickened out of that last time I was at Oakwood! I wish I had, it didn't end well! Required a complete clothing change (emphasis on complete! :D)

You would probably remember it if you had! :p
