Efteling: General Discussion

I dunno. Part of the charm is the green space around the park. And short of that one area which they use for Winter stuff there's not much space that they can use without removing something.

I'd imagine the stuff around Bosrijk will be resort related anyway. Maybe a water park as that's about the only thing they don't have and the current swimming pool is inadequate.

Efteling is a joyous park, but it's surprisng they are seeking to expand the physical park by such an amount. They need to build a proper transit system like a cable car with constant dispatches. The train is lovely, but not really realistic to use as transit due to it being every 15 minutes or so.

They should extend Gondoletta for transport purposes, it's not long enough.

I agree that a park of Efteling's size ought to have some more practical in-park transport, but I feel like there's got to be potential for improvement to the way the railway's run, even with the numerous impracticalities of using genuine steam locos in a theme park compared to, say, EP's Chance diesel fleet. At least once I've waited ages for one of the two locos in steam on a busy day to turn up at Station de Oost, not been near enough to the front of the queue to get on the train, then found the other was right behind anyway. It's not that short a run and I suspect the drivers have radios; why wasn't the second train being kept back to give more even departure intervals from the stations?

Ms F.T. Ling has finally teased the changes for the, currently bare and themeless, Reizenrijk land with this lovely little video.

Here's the description for full details:

Efteling has big plans for the Reizenrijk part of the park! Avonturen Doolhof maze and Monsieur Cannibal's spinning cauldrons will be transformed into Archipel and Sirocco. In winter 2021, both attractions will open with a new theme, Sindbad the Sailor, from the stories of the 1001 Nights. This wealthy and enterprising merchant has been present in the theme park since 1998. Vogel Rok rollercoaster is an adventure based on one of his seven sea voyages. Panorama restaurant will also be adapted to this new theme at a later date.

I kinda hope they redo the hotel entrance with this because it's so terrible.

The new design of the ride looks fab too.

I’m sure it’s just the concept art being creative, but how awesome would it be if the Monsieur Cannibale retheme was actually a variation of a Mack twist and splash to replace the old ride system. It could do without the guns but a way for the base to be submerged in water would actually be really cool !

Hi guys,

I read on here a few weeks back that Efteling is a Non-profit business. Can someone in the know expand on this? So all profits just get spent on future developments!? Sorry if I sound dim!

Efteling itself isn’t strictly a non-profit but all it’s shares are owned by the Efteling Nature Park foundation which is.

Pretty sure whatever isn’t used for park development is spent on maintenance of the wider nature reserve that surrounds the park but reading their website most goes on park development.

With cuts, lack of long term investment, outsourcing and wasting millions on nonsense vanity projects we don't need to know what the UK government would do with a publicly owned park over here when we already have Merlin doing a damn good impression of what it would be like.

A new resort hotel is being planned as part of a redo of the parks main entrance. I know that the Efteling entrance experience was discussed as being somewhat lacklustre so this goes a huge way to improving that, the building is very grand and Inkeeping with the general theming of the park. It appears it may include a third station for the park’s steam train, and the covered arcade is expected to host a sort of Main Street with shops

It does feel as though diverting the entrance through the base of the hotel would render the House of the Five Senses building somewhat redundant. That seems like a massive and rather beloved/iconic entrance structure to leave at least somewhat redundant.

It being off to the side of the new entrance would mess up the sight lines from the car park and the symmetry too. The OCD VIBES are horrendous.

Seems from the pics you enter through the HOFS then turn left into the new building. It's not like it'd be hidden behind the new building.
