Mardi Gras & Oktoberfest 2021

Since Scarefest looks set to be unbearably busy judging by the hotel prices, I'm thinking of getting up for Oktoberfest instead (although would involve taking the kids out of school like a bad parent). It looks great.

Drinking pints of Erdinger with entertainment around, how Europa.

Be warned - you may have to settle for Hoegaarden if the Erdinger is playing up, as it often seems to.

:p

Went on Sunday and ended up sitting on the lawns from 12 until 4ish just soaking up the atmosphere and watching the entertainment. Honestly wish we had time to visit again it was that good.

Top tip would be to get the beer with MAP from the courtyard and walk through the middle entrance to get to the lawns (you are not allowed beer in Mutiny Bay so ensure you don't go out the wrong entrance).

The only "that's so Merlin" moment was when we went to the top floor of the two storey "chalet" to enjoy the entertainment like the marketing team suggested. We quickly discovered they had placed it in possibly the only spot on the entire lawns in which you couldn't see the stage....

I think that is intentional though to stop people hogging the balcony to watch the entertainment

It's just a shame they didn't walk out to the lawn and look where it had been placed before writing the blog post.

"The chalet roof has a balcony area where guests can enjoy a beverage whilst watching the spectacular stage shows"
was published on the 17th September after it had been open a few days.

To be fair, you can see the stage, just can't see the performers! :D:D:D:D
(taken on Friday when I was up there!)

Wait is courtyard doing MAP discount?? Damn

Just assumed if wasn't available as it was the same beer selection as the vendors on the lawn.

Courtyard is just the Welcom-Inn re-located with the Oktoberfest beers. Discount as usual.

Had my first experience of Oktobefest over the weekend. What a brilliant event, something we have been crying out for over many years! Nice to be able to sit down, have a good selection of beers to choose from and just relax with some entertainment.

The setup on the lawns is fantastic, and the atmosphere by the end of the day was simply superb.

Now all they need to do is increase the loop of the music played on the lawns for us poor buggers who sit there all day! :p

I didn’t get to drink much at Oktoberfest because I was driving, but the event felt very well put together and is absolutely the kind of thing Towers needs to do a lot more of. Entertainment seemed naff but in all honesty the atmosphere was good enough to negate that.

The entertainment [on stage] in my opinion wasn't naff, but cheesy and fun. But to be honest, that all added to the atmosphere!

They really need to have more than six songs played across the park and all the hotels. It was getting incredibly tiresome by the end of the day.
Yeah you're right it, the selection was fine - they're all classic singalong tunes but there does need to be more of a selection. Perhaps their thinking was to keep the content limited to try and stop people spending all day on the lawns/in the bierkeller, unless you're @Rob !! :D:D

There was one singer who clearly didn’t know the words to Come On Eileen (apart from “Come On Eileen”).

From the few clips I've seen online from the last week or so, it looks like there are different entertainers to when I visited weekend before last. The ones I saw were fine. I'm talking about the main stage as I didn't go into the Bierkeller area except on my way to the loo!

Bierkeller has an accordion player who was pretty good and the hotel singers. The main stage have the brass band who are very good, a dance troop who are fine and a singer who was mediocre.

The entertainment was adequate to good, my only criticism is they clearly assume no one is going to stay in the main area for more than an hour as the same set gets done 4 times across the day. Also the music for in between acts needs more songs as well.
