Rulantica - The Future

Rulantica and the Water Adventure Resort have not even opened yet, however there appears to be news on the future of this complex. EP-Lounge have posted the following on Twitter:

Rulantica has not even opened, the park is already planning the next expansion of the water world. This plan includes the planned 7th theme hotel, an expanded indoor and outdoor area, as well as a monorail connecting Europa-Park and Rulantica.

I'm not too sure yet exactly where they have got this from, buy boy it looks rather exciting!

Europa-Park have previously spoken about the many possible expansion phases they have planned out for Rulantica and this new Resort area, and I would imagine the above is more of a masterplan rather than one single expansion. So it may not be fully realised for a fairly long time.

That 7th hotel looks massive, surely the biggest so far!

:)

This interview with Michael and Thomas Mack confirms that there are currently 2 planned expansions for Rulatnica:
  • A wellness spa facility like found in some of the Resort hotels
  • An expansion that will add more slides to the waterpark
They plan to wait for Rulantica to open and see which of their plans has a higher demand before deciding on which to implement first.

Well, remember what was said during our NY construction site tour (in a very paraphrased manner).

"In which direction do you think this'll expand out?"
"Every direction!"

Will Europa Park hold the record for the theme park with the most monorails? It's just like Europa Park to go chasing after pointless records. That's why Europa Park will never be a decent theme park. They just focus on pointless records all the time :tearsofjoy:

I've been reading a lot of comments on various forums saying that with all of Disney's big plans, that the Walt Disney Studios Park is about to take back the mantle of Europe's second most visited theme park. With Disney's brand power and a billion plus euros, they might well be right, but Europa Park looks like it's going to give them a good run for their money in the process. Particularly given that most of the plans for Paris look like re-worked versions of what they've done at the American parks, I'm actually more excited about Europa Park's going to do over the next five years, than what Disneyland Paris will be doing. Although it's good to see both resorts expanding.

I don't think EP really care about the DLP situation with guests. WDS is far lower than Disneyland Park mainly due to the way DLP counts attendance rather than anything else.

It's pretty much a certain that more people visit WDS a year than visiting EP.

Had a slow day at work, so spent a bit of time studying this phased proposal map. I have lined it up with google maps and so very its pretty much accurate.

The 8 lane racer which is scheduled to be completed next can be seen in the south east corner of Rulantica, so this suggests this is the next phase. Interestingly, there is a slide to the east and west of the racer so will we see that also in the next phase?

I have too much time on my hands...

Haha - yes, the rally racer will probably be 2023 I am guessing. Although with EP, you never know - they like to spring projects on us all of a sudden. But I can't see 2022 being a major year, given they are still recovering from Covid, Rulantica had additions this year already and they are gearing up for a huge 2023. Imagine being able to launch a major new ride in both Rulantica and Europa-Park simultaneously?

I think the rest of the above map is more a "blue sky" than anything. Given the weather, I think more indoor spaces need developing at Rulantica.

There’s a good interview here (https://t.co/Ch7CxJm23t) with the general manager from Rulantica (in English!), he talks a bit about the future and how Rulantica came about, etc.

He does say there are plans, however things have also changed due to the likes of Yullbe and Eatrenalin.

In terms of 2022:
We are planning something for 2022, most likely outside. We are planning to increase also the indoor area, we do not know how fast it will be but we should always level out.

Great article; I love Von Byern. We met him back in the late 00s. I didn't realise they are struggling to get Swiss guests in!
