S&S Axis Coaster confirmed for Europe in 2023; where could it be going?

Hi guys. According to numerous sources, S&S has sold one of their new Axis models to a European theme park, and it will open in 2023:

This was confirmed at the European IAAPA Expo.

However, it is not known what park this mystery coaster is headed to. So my question to you today is; what park do you think this could be headed to?

As for my guess, I’m really unsure. There are no parks in Europe with a real purchase history from S&S (S&S’ presence in Europe is currently surprisingly limited), so where it could be going is anyone’s guess, really!

I’ve heard Walibi Holland getting thrown around a lot, and I guess that would make sense given that 2023 would represent 4 years since Untamed, and an S&S Axis would also be very different to any of Walibi Holland’s present coasters. This rumour is further exacerbated by the fact that an S&S 4D was allegedly under consideration before Untamed. However, I wouldn’t like to pinpoint that park with cast iron certainty by any means.

But what are your thoughts?

Aaaah I've been expecting this thread @Matt N
Now this news is very exciting as I was wondering when it was going to get built. There are a few options in my eyes, some of which are unlikely but I will mention anyway.
1) Walibi Holland - same reasons at Matt. It seems plausible and something they would try.
2) Energylandia - have worked with vekoma extensively and Vekoma and S&S are owned by the same company. Also they add coasters at a ridiculous rate so nothing would surprise me here anymore.
3) Alton Towers - this ones unlikely as I don't think Merlin would risk it but I just think it would be cool. I also don't think SW9 is due just yet.
Of course there is other contenders but as of yet I can't think of any. I am personally really excited to see what S&S come up with and I hope its a success and isn't just a massive let down. I don't expect the prototype of a new and complex model to be elite but I want it to be fairly good and show us what else we could expect from the model in the future.

I think if any UK park was getting it you would be looking at Thorpe, I really doubt we will see another coaster at Towers in the next 6 years and Thorpe are probably due something. It would also fit with Merlins MO of having an “interesting proposal” (gimmick).

That said I suspect this will be in mainland Europe

I hadn't thought of this. I'm so used to thinking thorpe won't add anything that this is strange to talk about. It is actually possible however if chessington are opening there ride in 2023 then I doubt Thorpe would do the same. I can see chessington and Alton or thorpe and alton opening something in the same year as they are a good distance away. Opening two major rides at the two major London theme parks seen illogical to me. Even if they are attempting to target different markets it just seems unlikely Merlin would take such a risk.

It won't be a UK park. They'd have filed planning permission before purchasing.

I don’t think it’s a uk park but most parks in the western world need planning permission so when they say they have “sold” a model it just means they have paid for the design and agreed in principle. They won’t have actually signed on the dotted line to start fabrication wherever it’s destined to go.

It won't be them but I'm pretty sure Blackpool Pleasure Beach don't need permission to build anything.

I'd be wary building any new S+S designed coaster, Steel Curtain has been closed more than its been open, and the newer launch coasters always seem to have a patchy opening record.

Walibi Holland would be a good fit though, they've recently rethemed the Goliath area so something in the area were the go kart track is/was, especially if it could interact with the lake.

I'm convinced it's now Thorpe Park with the announcement of 'project exodus' even the plans look like odd segments and the ride is short which would make sense to bring down costs but fit in a compact area, merlin entertainments is know for building world first coaster, could this be coming to the UK?

i don’t think the height or layout would suit the axis model

I also imagine for the first axis they'd play it safe with a smaller coaster. There is no reason for them to build a massive hyper axis when they can build a smaller version which will be easier to manage and troubleshoot issue's with.

Yeah it's definitely not an Axis unfortunately. The elements aren't right for it, plus S&S have said that the loading will be inverted for easier access (track above the cars instead of underneath on the test layout they built). The concept images for Exodus clearly show that the track is fixed to the floor of the station.

By probability I'd say energylandia, seems like something they'd take a chance with, plus they put in coasters like 4 times more often than most other parks, so 4x as likely

I thought it had been confirmed that Energylandia was getting a vekoma tilt coaster the year this is meant to open? Even though they've opened multiple coasters in single years before I doubt they'll do it with this. They tend to do it with a kiddie/family coaster and a thrill coaster.
