The Flume- Memories of a classic Towers ride

Surpised to see that we don't have a thread dedicated to a classic much-loved and much-missed ride here in Talbot Street. This is a ride I have very clear memories of riding it many times a fair few years back now, and one I still miss to this day. :(

I was exploring the park on Google Maps earlier and came across some of the boats, which are being stored beside Duel's building. Makes me sad to see them just sitting there. :(

Do you miss the Flume as much as I do? Share your fond memories here! :)

One of the announcements... "To keep your queue time to a minimum you may be asked to share a bathtub. Five people can share one bathtub. Mmmmm, cosy. Well, it's one way to save water!"
Don't think they'd get away with that nowadays! :p

I went in 2010 with my school and remember I went on with some friends, We decided to organise ourselves in weight order with the heaviest at the front, with the idea that we would go faster, solid thinking imo

was genuinely heartbroken when it closed, I bid on the number 29 boat as its my favourite number but unsurprisingly got outbid, think I put a £200 on it but lost out

To bring this topic back, we can't forget to talk about that damn duck. Anyone got memories of that demonic creature? I have one memory in 2008 when I went on with my sister and her boyfriend (now husband and yes, I was playing third wheel on that trip) and when that duck came out, both of them were left terrified of it, probably screamed more than the other rides on the park if I'll be honest.

I do miss the Flume ride, with hindsight the moment they didn't decide to retheme the ride into Mutiny Bay was pretty much the first nail in the coffin for the ride. The park badly needs a good family water ride though perhaps not with any scary giant ducks. Come to think of it, the giant duck was pretty the final boss of Alton Towers, having a reference at the next Scarefest would be cherry on top! :)

Oh, and the theme for the ride was an absolute banger! :D

Never got to ride it, but I loved the look of it'd Barh theme and its soundtrack. It seemed tochave a great layout aswell, when it steadily floats throughout the forest. Wish more Log Flumes used their environment around them more. Most log flumes just have a couple of turns with some fake scenery, then the lifthill and drop.

The flume looked really unique, especially when it had its Imperial Leather overlay.

Must admit I much preferred the original version of the ride and found the Imperial Leather retheme very tacky.

Looking back though it was a unique and fun theme.

Also it was one of the longest flume rides in the world, how we could so with something like that at the moment in a park filled with coasters and not a lot else.

Was Wicker Man actually worth it when replacing one of the UKs best log flumes then? That is what I'm getting from how people saying here hoe they loved it.

It was pretty hanging in its final few years. I remember there was quite a large leak from the top of the final drop, and the queue line passed right under neath it so you often ended up getting a pre soaking in the queue line.
As a replacement, you can’t really compare them but Wickerman is an excellent attraction with wide appeal. I do yearn for a replacement though, and my bets for SW9 is a water coaster. I’m pretty sure it would be a U.K. first?
