This is the worst I have felt after both jabs. The pain in my glands in the armpit was incredible, felt very bruised and couldnt touch it. Its gone today though but the headache and feeling very tired (and slight temp) is still there today, allbeit not as bad as yesterday. Speaking to other colleagues in work who also have had their 3rd they are saying the same thing with a few having had side effects for a week before they went away.

Somewhat concerning though if they want us to have these booster every year like the flu jab if each time provokes a stronger response lol!

Also worth nothing that it’s been around since July, so if it had a significant competitive advantage over Delta you would have expected it to have taken off more than it has done in the last 3 months. It took Delta no time at all to pretty much completely eradicate Alpha.

So, the government has firmly rejected the implementation of “Plan B” at this point in time. Face masks will not be made compulsory, and work from home will not be coming back.

What are our thoughts on this?

I’ll admit I’m getting really worried about COVID again. Cases are the highest they’ve been in months, and could approach 100,000 per day according to the Health Secretary. Deaths are getting quite high again. According to The Sun, the government is even strategising “Plan C”, where things like household mixing are once again banned. I’ll admit I’m very worried about how this winter will play out, what with waning vaccine immunity, flu and all the other diseases that will be much more rife, as well as high levels of COVID.

I know it’s probably irrational given that the government clearly isn’t overly worried, but I’ll admit I am worried that the cycle of going in and out of lockdown will just continue forever and ever.

Just because the government aren't saying they are worried doesn't mean they are...

Personally I'm not too concerned at the moment!

I feel the government are just making the same mistakes as last year all over again. They failed to take action this time last year which resulted in a massive increases in cases and deaths over the winter and they seem to be doing the same thing again.

Vaccines mean we are in a better position this year but cases, deaths and hospitalisation are on a steep incline.

Face masks shouldn’t have been scrapped in the first place in my view especially when social distancing was also gone at the same time.

Bringing back face mask requirements as well as encouraging working from home now would be a sensible step to avoid stricter measures being needed in the coming months (in my view).

The face mask mandate should never have gone, simple as that.

I'm not too concerned at the moment. Covid is never going to go away, so we either learn to live with it or decide we cannot live with it and bring in harsh restrictions every winter/every time case levels are high.

Not really too sure what is going on with the booster roll out, it all seems rather quiet. My dad had his second dose 6 months ago but has heard nothing yet. And doesn't sound like my nan, who is in a care home, has had hers yet either.

The trouble is that re-imposing restrictions will have a far lower uptake/participation rate than if they had stayed in the first place. From personal experience, this is particularly the case for "working from home" - where with each lockdown that we have had the participation rate has been lower than the one before, with lots of people/businesses finding reasons why they can't work from home even though they could quite happily last March-July.

In my local area we have had mask wearing re-imposed for school drop offs/pick ups the last few weeks due to high local infection rates, but I would say at best it is only around 30% of parents wearing one now. I know this isn't the same as it being legally mandated but it still shows that there is less appetite to follow rules now than there has been in the past, and it has gradually eroded over time from very high compliance when the pandemic started through to now.

I think it'll be the usual approach the government have taken. Wait until the problem gets completely out of control, then impose tough restrictions that could've been avoided if they'd just acted sooner.

100% face mask mandation should have and still should be brought back for the winter months this will seriously help without affecting everybody's freedom. I know we have jabs and most people don't suffer however spreading it round at mass forever isn't going to work as it will likely result in another variant. We can not a should not take the risk of another variant that might well be more resistant to the vaccine. It should be simple for the government: get everyone wearing masks again.
